Emmy Award winner Laurie Metcalf (November, Roseanne) teams with Tony Award winning director Joe Mantello (The Pride, Glengarry Glen Ross) to stage this new emotional thriller by fast-rising playwright Sharr White.

Just as Juliana Smithton's research leads to a potential breakthrough in Alzheimer treatment drugs, her life takes a disorienting turn. During a lecture to colleagues at an exclusive beach resort, she glimpses an enigmatic young woman in a yellow bikini amidst the crowd of business suits. One step at a time, a mystery unravels as contradictory evidence, blurred truth and fragmented memories collide in a cottage on the windswept shores of Cape Cod.

BWW Review: Seattle Public Theater's THE OTHER PLACE Beyond Brilliant
by Amelia Reynolds - Mar 30, 2016

Dealing with a potentially unreliable narrator can be an emotionally frustrating experience. I feel betrayed by a production where I feel like I cannot believe what the storyteller is conveying to me, because, truly, what was the point of entrusting a deceptive narrator with your time? But in 'The Other Place' at Seattle Public Theater, our narrator Juliana Smithton's fluctuation of truth and delusion is, in fact, her subjective truth in a story of dementia and the trauma it inflicts. Never once did I feel betrayed by our protagonist: if anything, I felt I learned the most about her story from the grey area between reality and fantasy thanks to Amy Thone's brilliant performance. BWW Review: Circuit's THE OTHER PLACE Is 'Down the Rabbit Hole'
by Joseph Baker - Feb 8, 2016

Throughout Sunday's matinee of Sharr White's intensely watchable The Other Place at Circuit, for some reason I kept thinking of Edgar Allan Poe's 'A Dream Within a Dream' and, particularly, of these lines: 'All that we see or seem / Is but a dream within a dream. / I stand amid the roar / Of a surf-tormented shore, / And I hold within my hand / Grains of the golden sand -- / How few! yet how they creep / Through my fingers to the deep, / While I weep -- while I weep.' The Other Place, ably directed by the always dependable Dave Landis, is somewhat constructed like a Chinese puzzle box. Like the main character, a drug company scientist named 'Juliana Smithton' (who, in turn, is married to 'Ian,' an oncologist), the audience is continually challenged with questions of what is real and what is not.
