"Celebrate with Song and Dance!" will feature the Orchestra, Concert Band, and Wind Ensemble of Millersville University on Sunday, October 11 at 2:30 PM at the Winter Center presented by the MU Department of Music. The concert will feature selections from Beethoven's 5th Symphony, Borodin's The Polovetsian Dances, J. P. Sousa's The Washington Post, Norman Dello Joio's Satiric Dances, and a setting of the American folk song, "Shenandoah" by Frank Ticheli. Flute soloist and MU Faculty member Joel Behrens will also be featured performing Cecile Chaminade's "Concertino for Flute."  The Winter Center is located at 60 W. Cottage Ave., Millersville. Film and Stage producers/writers Victor Bardack (The Great New Wonderful) and Edward Michael Bell (The Jesse Owens Games) have written and produced a tragi-comedy for the stage titled HILLARY & MONICA: MORE THAN JUST HE BJ. It will be directed by award winning Joel Zwick (My Big Fat Greek Wedding).  Bardack and Bell head the motion picture and stage production company under their banner Argus Entertainment located in Beverly Hills. Pippin and Next To Normal's Kyle Dean Massey headlines The Copa Palm Springs for one very special performance, October 9, at 8 pm in an intimate Cabaret that features "songs he loves but he's never had the opportunity to sing". Massey first joined the North American touring production of Wicked in 2007, as part of the ensemble and understudy for the lead role of Fiyero, before joining the Broadway production. He played Thalia in Broadway's Xanadu and Matthew in Off-Broadway's Altar Boyz as well as the role of Gabe in the Broadway musical Next to Normal, staying with the show until it closed in January 2011. He then returned to Broadway's Wicked in the leading role of Fiyero and  assumed the title role in the Broadway revival of Pippin.He was also featured in a recurring role as openly gay country star Kevin Bicks in the ABC television series Nashville. John Cullum attended opening night of Fracture Theatre Company's production of URINETOWN, the show for which he originated the role of Caldwell B. Cladwell, then had the theater named after him in ceremonies following the performance. Also in attendance were the show's composer, Mark Hollmann, book writer Greg Kotis ( they collaborated on the lyrics) and Jennifer Laura Thompson, the original Hope Cladwell. Cast gathered on stage as Cullum was presented with a plaque. The two-time Tony-Award winner ( Shenandoah, ON THE TWENTIETH CENTURY) saiid watching the show had transported him right back to Urinetown and that of all the theaters he has performed in, this theater, where the show got its start, would be his choice to bear his name. It has been the holiday show for the past five seasons and has become a holiday tradition here at MetroStage. The Human Race begins the second half of its 29th season with Tennessee William's first great masterpiece, The Glass Menagerie. Memories come alive and love becomes desperate in this shimmering drama of a family on the edge. Tom struggles to make it in a modern day world while his reclusive sister hides amongst the small glistening crystalline creatures she collects. Their mother holds tight to a fantasy of Southern gentility and the belief that a certain gentleman caller will be the answer to their problems. With an edge as sharp as broken glass, it's a story that cuts deep into the longing of human hearts. The production at The Human Race's downtown Dayton home at The Loft Theatre is directed by Greg Hellems and features actors Scott Hunt, Jennifer Joplin, Claire Kennedy and Drew Vidal. All the verses and their titles are constructed solely of jazz tunes with two exceptions. The title exception is 'Jazz Haiku.' The content exception is 'Vibraphonissimo,' a chronological block of vibraphone players whose music I've come to know, resting upon the two pioneers of the instrument. Commas separate titles within the verses, but interior commas from song titles have been removed to prevent confusion. (more...)
