Shakespeare & Company's ROMEO AND JULIET to Run 7/17-8/23 at The Mount, Edith Wharton's Home

Shakespeare & Company's Northeast Regional Tour of Romeo and Juliet, directed by Jonathan Croy, returns home to Lenox settling in for special limited engagement at The Mount, Edith Wharton's Home. After playing to tens of thousands of students this winter and spring, the Company's non-union schools tour, the Northeast Regional Tour of Shakespeare, will perform their unique six-actor, 90-minute version of William Shakespeare's timeless tale of star-crossed lovers outdoors at 2 Plunkett Street-the address where the landmark theatre company was founded in 1978. Now in its 34th year, the Northeast Regional Tour of Shakespeare has proven to be one of the Education Program's most successful and popular programs, reaching over 25,000 students every year. Midsommer Flight announces its third summer season of Shakespeare in the Park with the delightful comedy Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare and directed by Midsommer Flight's Founder and Producing Artistic Director Beth Wolf. Dedicated to presenting outdoor performances of Shakespeare's plays, Midsommer Flight is a proud arts partner with the Chicago Park District. Much Ado About Nothing runs July 19 through August 24, Saturdays at 6 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. The July 19 - 20 and 26 - 27 performances are at Schreiber Park, 1552 W. Schreiber Avenue, in the field at the corner of Bosworth Avenue and Schreiber Avenue. August 2 - 3 and 9 - 10 performances are at Gross Park, 2708 W. Lawrence Avenue, at the north end of the park along Gunnison Street. The August 16 - 17 and 23 - 24 performances are at Touhy Park, 7348 N. Paulina Street, in the southeast grove along Paulina Street. All performances will be presented free of charge (donations gratefully accepted). In addition, live music will be presented prior to each performance. Audiences are encouraged to come early and bring a Picnic to enjoy this free programming. Theatre Aspen announces expanded lobby hours as well as exciting food offerings at the Hurst Theatre. Located in the beautiful setting of the John Denver Sanctuary in Rio Grande Park, Theatre Aspen's concession area is now open throughout the day offering gourmet, pre-packaged items daily (closed Sundays). In partnership with local chef Mawa McQueen, of Mawa's Kitchen, visitors can enjoy healthy snack boxes in the theatre's open air lobby or Picnic outside in and around the Rio Grande Park. Food items include charcuterie platters, salads, a Mediterranean sampler and other small meals. “Fantasia”—Disney's crown jewel that changed the course of animation forever when it was released in 1940—is brought to fresh, new life when Pacific Symphony presents the captivating blend of music and moving pictures, live and under the stars, as part of “Mercedes-Benz presents Summer Festival 2014.” A perfect evening for reliving childhood memories or introducing new ones to youngsters, “Disney 'Fantasia': Live in Concert” features stunning footage from the original version as well as “Fantasia 2000” shown on the big screen above the stage, as the orchestra performs classical masterpieces in sync with the animation. Starring the iconic Mickey Mouse in “The Sorcerer's Apprentice,” the presentation also delights with colorful and vibrant animations of dancing hippos, baby unicorns, flamingos and Disney's other favorite characters—Donald and Daisy Duck in the 2000 version of “Pomp and Circumstance.” Led by Principal Pops Conductor Richard Kaufman, the Symphony also performs selections from Beethoven's Fifth and Sixth symphonies, “The Nutcracker Suite,” “Carnival of the Animals,” “Firebird,” “Pines of Rome,” “Claire de Lune” and “Dance of the Hours.” (more...)

Internationally-acclaimed conductor Miguel Harth-Bedoya makes his Brevard Music Center premiere with a weekend of unforgettable performances. On Friday, July 18 at 7:30 p.m., Harth-Bedoya leads the Brevard Music Center Orchestra in two of classical music's true masterpieces – Brahms's second symphony and Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 2. The 2013 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition Gold Medalist Vadym Kholodenko joins the orchestra for the performance.
