BWW Review: 9 TO 5 THE MUSICAL at the BroadHollow Theatre Company in Elmont

'9 to 5' is Broadhollow at Elmont's latest musical and it is a hoot! Those familiar with the vintage movie and those currently in the working world will certainly enjoy this timeless tale of three secretaries getting revenge on their 'sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot' of a boss. Dolly Parton, who starred in the film along with Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda, created the music and lyrics to accompany the Broadway musical which played a brief run in 2009. A national tour of the show followed as well as several regional theater productions. Now at the Broadhollow, Violet, Judy, and Doralee are back and better than ever! (more...)

The Palm Canyon Theatre Celebrates The Rhythm Of Life With Tony Winning Musical SWEET CHARITY

Originally directed and choreographed by directing and dancing legend Bob Fosse, Sweet Charity at the Palm Canyon Theatre is focused on bringing that Fosse style to Palm Springs. Choreographer Stephanie Eley, a stage veteran, is sharing her expertise with dancers from various studios across the valley and many College of the Desert students. Eley was in the original Broadway cast of Dreamgirls and My One and Only, and performed in the national and international tours of A Chorus Line from 1977-1980. Jake Emmerling is doing just that, currently spreading the good word across the country in The Book of Mormon national tour as a member of the ensemble. After returning to his alma mater for an afternoon to teach a choreography masterclass, I was lucky enough to sit down with the performer and hear about his experience being on tour with such a big Broadway hit. So, as you can imagine, I am thoroughly excited to again see the musical adaptation now playing at Long Island's Noel Ruiz Theatre at CM Performing Arts Center (CMPAC). Kennedy Center Announces JFK Centennial Week

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts today announced a weeklong celebration to honor the 100th anniversary of the birth of its namesake, the late President John F. Kennedy-whose 100th birthday would have been May 29, 2017. The Center kicked off its Centennial celebration last May, and by the end of 2017, will have presented a suite of more than 50 distinct programs inspired by five ideals often ascribed to President Kennedy: Courage, Freedom, Justice, Service, and Gratitude. Special performances fromMay 23-29, 2017 span theater programs, dance, music, and the return of the Center's popular Open House, which all memorialize the life and legacy of America's 35th President. Highlights include performances by DJ Spooky, Yo-Yo Ma with the National Symphony Orchestra, the world premieres of Kennedy Center commissions by composer Mason Bates and Company E, and special Open House performances by Bandaloop, Flexn, and others.
