Classic Stage Company, under the leadership of Artistic Director John Doyle and Executive Producer Director Jeff Griffin, announced today that Tony, Emmy and Academy Award-winner Ellen Burstyn will play the role of Jaques in the company's new production of William Shakespeare's As You Like It, directed by Doyle, with music by Stephen Schwartz, beginning Wednesday, September 13 as the first production of CSC's 50th Anniversary Season. Former Orlando Ballet Principal Dancers Israel Rodriguez and Katia Garza Join Elite Faculty of New Performing Arts Academy in Altamonte Springs

Former Orlando Ballet principal dancers Israel Rodriguez and Katia Garza have joined Skyra Studios as the Directors of the Dance Program. Skyra is a state-of-the-art performing arts academy, owned by local film producers Mary and Scott Poiley that is slated to open in Altamonte Springs late summer. The 7,000 sq ft studio features four oversized and uniquely themed dance rooms with 15' ceilings and sprung floors, a film recording studio, a digital lab for filmmakers and artists, a study lounge, large dressing room with changing pods, a cafe, a retail store, and a one-of-a-kind curriculum encompassing dance, acting, filmmaking and art. Rodriguez and Garza are principal dancers and highly sought after master teachers and coaches. Their former students include principal dancers, soloists and members of the Corps de Ballet in the Houston Ballet, New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Tulsa Ballet, Sarasota Ballet, Orlando Ballet and others. The pair has developed a conservatory style program focused on discipline, technique, and artistry for classical and contemporary professional dancers. (more...)

Based on Disney's 1991 Academy Award-winning animated film of the same name as well as the classic French fairy tale by Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont, Beauty & the Beast tells the story of a bright, beautiful young woman who doesn't seem to fit in with her hometown. She later finds herself trapped in the enchanted castle of a cold-hearted prince who had been magically transformed into a hideous beast as punishment for his selfish ways. On the heels of critically-acclaimed sold-out runs at Steppenwolf Theatre Company and The Miracle Center in Logan Square, Teatro Vista's La Havana Madrid by Sandra Delgado arrives at Goodman Theatre for an extended summer run, July 21 - August 20. Chicago's fabled 1960s nightclub, La Havana Madrid, comes bursting back to life in 'an immersive, wholly enjoyable experience' (Chicago Reader) complete with live music and 'enough dancing and bonhomie to tempt you away from your little table down front' (Chicago Tribune). Directed by Teatro Vista ensemble member Cheryl Lynn Bruce, the production was inspired by true stories of Cuban, Puerto Rican and Colombian immigrants who found refuge in the nightclub. Delgado leads the eight-member cast (a full list appears below) as a mystical woman who conjures stories and vibrant songs performed live onstage each night by Colombian-American musician Roberto 'Carpacho' Marin and his band of 30 years, Carpacho y Su Super Combo.
