When it opened on Broadway in 2006, The Drowsy Chaperone boasted an all-star cast and garnered five Tony Awards, including Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score. You can expect that same quality in Broadway at Music Circus' third production of the summer, with Lynne Wintersteller returning to Sacramento in the title role. Lynne was last seen here in 2017 as Dolly Levi in Hello, Dolly! and as Mother Superior in Sister Act, where she solidified her place as Music Circus royalty and left audiences anticipating her return. We are now lucky enough to witness that event and Lynne was generous enough to speak with Broadway World Sacramento about her newest role and what we can expect from her in the future.

The Colorado Theatre Guild's 14th Annual Henry Awards will take place Monday, July 22, 2019 at the Lone Tree Arts Center, located at 10075 Commons St. Lone Tree, CO 80124. The evening begins at 6 p.m. with cocktails and the awards ceremony will begin at 7 p.m., followed by a catered reception at the Lone Tree Arts Center. Tickets are $35 for CTG members, $40 non-members or $50 at the door. The musical will be coming to CASA 0101 Theater, 2102 East First Street (at St. Louis Street), Boyle Heights, CA 90033, April 19 - May 19, 2019. Opening Nights is Friday, April 19, 2019 at 8:00 p.m. Previews are April 12 - 14, 2019.

Greenway Arts Alliance (Whitney Weston and Pierson Blaetz, Co-Founders and Co-Artistic Directors) announced the cast and creative team for the THE COLOR PURPLE, which will play at the Greenway Court Theatre (544 N. Fairfax Avenue, Los Angeles). Performances run from November 9 through December 9 with the official press opening on Saturday, November 10. The Tony Award-winning musical features a book by Marsha Norman and music and lyrics by Brenda Russell, Allee Willis and Stephen Bray. Perhaps best known for his screenplay To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar as well as his award-winning work on musicals Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella, Sister Act, Xanadu and Lysistrata Jones, Beane is playwright-in-residence at Villanova University this spring. The acclaimed writer has been working alongside undergraduate and graduate students on a new play development process culminating in a public reading April 27-29, 2018.
