SISTER ACT, The Musical Is Coming To CASA 0101 Theater In Boyle Heights

SISTER ACT, the Musical, the Tony Award nominated show based on the 1992 Touchstone Pictures hit film of the same name, features music written by eight-time Academy Award, seven-time Golden Globe, 11-time Grammy Award and Tony Award-winning composer, Alan Menken, with lyrics by Glenn Slater and Book by Cheri Steinkellner and Bill Steinkellner, with additional book material by Douglas Carter Beane, The musical was originally directed by Peter Schneider. The musical will be coming to CASA 0101 Theater, 2102 East First Street (at St. Louis Street), Boyle Heights, CA 90033, April 19 - May 19, 2019. Opening Nights is Friday, April 19, 2019 at 8:00 p.m. Previews are April 12 - 14, 2019.

CASA 0101 Theater, Josefina López, Artistic Director, TNH Productions, Rigo Tejeda, Artistic Director and Abel Alvarado, Producing Artistic Director, Producers Felipe Agredano, Emmanuel Deleage, Edward Padilla, El Centro Del Pueblo, Riboli Family San Antonio Winery and Executive Producer Conrado TerrazasCross, in association with Behind The Mask Inc. will present SISTER ACT, the Musical.

This production is directed by Rigo Tejeda, musically directed by Gabrielle Maldonado and choreographed Tania Possick. Jacquelin Lorraine Schofield stars in the dual roles of Deloris Van Cartier/Sister Mary Clarence leading a cast of 20 actors.

SISTER ACT, the Musical, tells the story of Deloris Van Cartier, a disco nightclub diva, who witnesses a murder committed by her mobster boyfriend, Curtis Jackson, after which Deloris is placed in a witness protective program in a convent under the custody of the local police department. Comedy ensues as Deloris dons a nun's habit to go undercover as "Sister Mary Clarence," while attempting to acclimate herself into her new lifestyle in a convent.

The musical premiered at Pasadena Playhouse in Pasadena, CA on October 24, 2006 with Dawnn Lewis originating the role of Deloris Van Cartier. Patina Miller, who was in the ensemble in the original production in Pasadena, later went on to play the role of Deloris Van Cartier in the West End production at the London Palladium which opened on June 2, 2009, and later on Broadway at the Broadway Theatre which opened on April 20, 2011.
