The Long Beach Playhouse closes its Mainstage season with the classic and much beloved musical My Fair Lady. Most people know the story of Eliza Doolittle - a flower seller of limited means with a feisty personality whom Professor Higgins transforms into a Victorian lady who can engage with people of wealth and means without a hint of the once-humble street vendor showing through the facade.
TCM To Pay Tribute To Musicals In June Programming Special 'Mad About Musicals!'

Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will pay homage to the glittering world of Hollywood musicals with Mad About Musicals!, a special month of programming celebrating timeless movie musicals such as The Wizard of Oz, Singin' in the Rain and Cabaret. TCM is once again partnering with Ball State University and Canvas to offer a free online multimedia course tied to this programming special about the history of the musical genre and its evolution with cultural and technological shifts. Enrollment is open until June 17 and fans can sign up for the course at musicals.tcm.com.

Lincoln Center's MY FAIR LADY Will Embark on a North American Tour

Nederlander Presentations, Inc., James L. Nederlander, President, is pleased to announce the North American tour of Lincoln Center Theater's critically-acclaimed production of Lerner & Loewe's MY FAIR LADY. Directed by Bartlett Sher, the North American tour will launch in the Fall of 2019. Tour cities and casting will be announced at a later date.

MY FAIR LADY is a 1956 musical based on George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion, with book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe. The musical is the story of Eliza Doolittle (Martina Ohlhauser) a Cockney flower girl who takes speech lessons from professor Henry Higgins (Damon Brown), a phoneticist, in order to improve her station in life by passing as a lady. The original Broadway production was both a critical and popular success, setting the record for the longest run of any show up to that time. It has been revived multiple times, including the current production on Broadway and has been turned into a popular film. It won the 1957 Tony Award for Best Musical. MY FAIR LADY features one of musical theatre's greatest scores, including 'Wouldn't It Be Loverly?' 'The Rain in Spain,' 'I Could Have Danced All Night,' 'On the Street Where You Live,' and 'Get Me to the Church on Time.'

Liz Robertson gave an affectionate musical tribute to her late husband, Alan Jay Lerner, the internationally acclaimed author of My Fair Lady last night in the theatre districts legendary Don't Tell Mama. My Fair Lady of course began it's Broadway run of 2,717 performances in 1956 at the Mark Hellinger Theatre on 51st Street. Don't Tell Mama on 46th street will present Liz Robinson's Cabaret show ( which she also performs in London) for three performances.

The lovely cast of My Fair Lady is officially in rehearsals -- and they've posted video to let you in on the fun! 'Our main goal is to get people talking about how this piece relates to what's happening in our society and culture right now,' Hamilton alum Jordan Donica, who plays Freddy, said.
Norbert Leo Butz, who plays Mr. Doolittle, added, 'It's kind of a miraculous thing that something that is so entertaining sounds so beautiful and is so funny is about something so deep.
