Casa Mañana has announced the nominations for the 2020 Betty Lynn Buckley Awards. Winners will be announced online via livestream on Casa's Facebook and YouTube channel, Thursday, May 21, 2020, at 7:30pm. Director of Theatre for Youth and local legend B.J. Cleveland will host. Everyone loves a little nostalgia, especially when it comes to their favorite television shows and movies growing up. For millennials and Gen Z-ers, these probably include a few DCOMs (Disney Channel Original Movie) and series. Several of the stars of these films and TV shows have gone on to further their acting and singing careers on Broadway, and some even got their start on the stage. As I sit down to write this review, I still have tears swelling in my eyes just thinking about my experience with this show. No matter how you cut it, Godspell is an incredibly powerful and moving piece of theatre. Based primarily on the Christian mythology of the Gospel according to St. Matthew, this story follows a group of lively characters as they act out the many parables that Jesus teaches them throughout their time together...

The New York Pops announces the appointment of Broadway star Capathia Jenkins to its Board of Directors. Capathia has previously appeared as a soloist with The New York Pops at Carnegie Hall on multiple occasions, including during the orchestra's R&B celebration in February 2018.

A CELEBRATION of Academy Award-winning songs is set to hit the right note for Limelight Theatre's last season of the year.

'Orphaned Songs for Orphaned Starfish' - a concert of composer Stephen Schwartz (Monday, November 19 at The Cutting Room), was an evening of unsung/cut songs from Wicked, Pippin, Working, and Children of Eden along with a new duet from the stage production of The Prince of Egypt. The concert also included some favorites from The Bakers Wife, Magic Show, Pippin, Pocahontas, Wicked and his opera Seance On a Wet Afternoon. The benefit evening for The Orphaned Starfish Foundation raised over $60,000.

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts today announced the selection of four Honorees who will receive the 2018 Kennedy Center Honors for lifetime artistic achievements, and a special Honors distinction for a work of art and its co-creators. Recipients to be honored at the 41st annual national celebration of the arts are: singer and actress Cher, composer and pianist Philip Glass, Country music entertainer Reba McEntire, and jazz saxophonist and composer Wayne Shorter. This year, the co-creators of Hamilton-writer and actor Lin-Manuel Miranda, director Thomas Kail, choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler, and music director Alex Lacamoire-will receive a unique Kennedy Center Honors as trailblazing creators of a transformative work that defies category.

Two actors. Five plays. One sexy night. Chiara Alik's smart comedy, Five Times In One Night, runs at Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater June 27 to July 20. Produced in collaboration with Ensemble Studio Theatre, Five Times in One Night is directed by R.J. Tolan, and stars Lacy Allen and Drew Lewis. Performances are at 8:00 p.m., Tuesdays through Saturdays, June 29 - July 20. Two preview performances, June 27 and 28, begin at 7:30 p.m
