The singer, songwriter and recording artist Carolyn Montgomery-Forant continued her recent comeback as performed her critically acclaimed 'Visible Phoenix' at the Laurie Beechman Theater, 407 West 42nd Street, a show which took off in October. The flame-throwing wit's first solo show since returning to the stage in January of last year, 'Visible Phoenix' marches on Fridays, March 13, and April 10. All shows are at 7pm. Murder, musical mayhem and a madcap mystery will be on stage when Philadelphia Theatre Company presents the killer musical MURDER FOR TWO, running June 6-28 at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre (Broad and Lombard Streets).  With book and music by Joe Kinosian, book and lyrics by Kellen Blair, and direction by Scott Schwartz, the hilarious whodunit features a two-man cast, with one actor investigating the crime and the other playing all the suspects -- and both playing the piano.  (more...)

This World of the Play event will explore the work of Outsider Artists like the self-taught Nukain Mabusa, whose life and work inspired Athol Fugard's The Painted Rocks at Revolver Creek. The panel of experts for this exciting discussion include gallerist Andrew Edlin, arts journalist Edward M. Gomez, and curator Kristin Sancken. The discussion will be led by moderator Brian Phillips. Collazo, who plays Nikki in the who-done-it comedy, has performed extensively throughout the Bay Area with PCRT, DTC, Palo Alto Players, 42nd Street Moon and Willows Theatre. She has been nominated for a Bay Area Theater Critics Circle Award, and has received two Shellie Awards for Best Actress. Her experience also includes work with Hillbarn Theatre's youth conservatory. The Des Moines Community Playhouse presents 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears,' Friday, May 15. This story is the last of the 2014-15 season of Friday Funday, a creative participatory story theatre program for children ages 4-6. Performances are at the Playhouse, Friday, May 16, at 9:30 AM, 10:30 AM, and 1:30 PM. Shows are approximately 45 minutes in length. Admission is $6 per person, adults and children. Few shows capture the glamour and spectacle of the original Ziegfeld Follies as well as 42nd Street. The elaborate showgirl numbers and huge dancing choruses were the stuff of legend, and provided the inspiration for many gaudy Broadway musicals. While the show mocks some of the silliness of the original art, it pays homage to the core glitz and sparkle of the Ziegfeld productions, and keeps the audience tapping their toes throughout.
