BWW Review: Melissa Errico Tackles the Big Questions of Life and Art in FUNNY, I'M A WOMAN WITH CHILDREN at Feinstein's/54 Below
by Casey Mink - Sep 27, 2016

In preparation for her return engagement at Feinstein's/54 Below, Melissa Errico was looking for answers, but she ended up with far more questions. In fact, much of the Tony-nominated mother of three's life and career as of late seems to be cloaked in indefinable uncertainty. She recently penned an op-ed for The New York Times detailing the confounding reality of being an actress who is not yet old but no longer 'an ingenue' and yet continues to work in the business of Broadway. Errico is all too aware of the current impasse of her life and, in an embrace, she dedicated her show, FUNNY, I'M A WOMAN WITH CHILDREN, to that very not-knowing. Nearly all of her songs throughout her performance on September 20---the first of four in her run---had the central theme of questioning because, as artists have done for centuries and which Errico set out to do this evening, to make sense of life through art is any creator's most powerful capability. BWW Review: Classic RAISIN IN THE SUN at Rep Spotlights How Far We Haven't Come
by Jay Irwin - Oct 6, 2016

There are certain plays out there that remain enduring classics. Maybe they're just that good. Or maybe they still pack a punch all these years later and resonate with attitudes of today. Well the Seattle Rep is presenting one on those classics with Lorraine Hansberry's "A Raisin in the Sun" and while it falls firmly into that first category of "just that good" unfortunately watching it last night I also felt how far we have and haven't come since it debuted in 1959 as many of the themes of inequality and prejudice on display are still all too prevalent today. BWW Review: TRAVESTIES, Menier Chocolate Factory, 4 October 2016
by Marianka Swain - Oct 5, 2016

Wilde, Joyce, Shakespeare, Lenin, memory, the morality of war, social systems, and the meaning and purpose of art: Stoppard's dazzlingly intellectual 1974 play really is a life, the universe and everything affair. Thankfully, Patrick Marber's fleet-footed revival is equally attuned to its wit and skittish strangeness, offering a lifeline to audience members who may be nodding fervently at the line 'I'm finding this conversation extremely hard to follow'. Photo Coverage: Todd Murray & Stacy Sullivan Bring SEPARATE WAYS to Feinstein's/54 Below
by Stephen Sorokoff - Oct 5, 2016

Critically acclaimed artists Stacy Sullivan and Todd Murray brought a thought provoking, sometime humorous, and musically entertaining look at the very human quandary of 'should I stay or should I go with '  with their show Separate Ways to Feinstein's/54 Below last night and Broadwayworld was there. They say that breaking up is hard to do; most certainly. But with writers such as George Gershwin, Joni Mitchell, Adam Guettel, Adele, we find that skies can be sunny blue or grey, and goodbyes can be happy. Songwriters have looked for ways to express the angst of people's need to be joined and separate at the same time. Todd and Stacy are masters at bringing honesty and life to their lyrics. (more...)

Photo Flash: A Red Orchid Theatre's Presents THE ROOM
by BWW News Desk - Oct 4, 2016

By turns terrifying, moving and wildly funny, The Room is Pinter's very first play. Rose prefers to stay in, safe from the hostile world outside, but her seemingly cozy sanctuary is continually being invaded. With visits from the landlord, a couple in search of their own space, a Stranger and the return of her husband, it becomes increasingly unclear whether the menace comes from within or without. The Room is a precarious examination of private fears vs. social fears, as seen through the lens of the working class. (more...)
