Free performances will tour City streets, parks and playgrounds throughout the five boroughs through September 14. COMMUNITY Season 6 Finds Home on Yahoo; 13 Episodes to Air Beginning This Fall

Last week, BWW reported that Hulu had abandoned its plan to acquire the NBC comedy COMMUNITY. But today, The Hollywood Reporter writes that the series has found a home on Yahoo Screen, and just in time! Sony Pictures Television stated earlier that the actors' contracts were set to expire today, June 30. COMMUNITY will air 13 new episodes beginning this fall. (more...)

Grier began his professional career on Broadway as Jackie Robinson in The First, for which he earned a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actor in a Musical and won the Theatre World Award. He then joined the cast of Dreamgirls before going on to star opposite Denzel Washington in A Soldier's Play, for which both actors reprised their roles in the film adaptation titled A Soldier's Story. Recently was seen in David Mamet's Race on Broadway and received his second Tony Award nomination. He most recently starred on Broadway in Porgy and Bess. (more...)

STAGE TUBE: On This Day 6/28- DREAMGIRLS

Today in 1987, the FIRST Broadway revival of Dreamgirls opened at the Ambassador Theatre, where it ran for 177 performances. Dreamgirls features music by Henry Krieger and lyrics and book by Tom Eyen. Based upon the show business aspirations and successes of R&B acts such as The Supremes, The Shirelles, James Brown, Jackie Wilson, and others, the musical follows the story of a young female singing trio from Chicago, Illinois called 'The Dreams', who become music superstars. The musical opened on December 20, 1981 at the Imperial Theatre, and was nominated for thirteen Tony Awards, including the Tony Award for Best Musical, and won six. It was later adapted into a motion picture from DreamWorks and Paramount Pictures in 2006. The 1987 cast featured Lillias White as 'Effie.' (more...)

After four weeks of impressive, but not compelling, auditions, on Wednesday night, SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE's 11th season dove head-first into an expedited Vegas Callback Week. Not only did we see each of the callback rounds, but we also saw the Green Mile, which brought us to this season's Top-20. While not having the Green Mile lead into a studio performance, as in recent years, was a little disappointing, I definitely appreciated not having the Top-20 announcements drug out for an entire two-hour broadcast. It was an incredible night for Toronto theatre when our community joined together to celebrate another year of performing arts in Toronto on June 23rd at the WestJet Stage at the Harbourfront Centre. For the 2013-2014 season, 143 producing companies (up 41 from last season's 102) registered eligible productions. A total of 48 Dora Awards, plus the Silver Ticket Award and the Audience Choice Award, were given out in a glittering ceremony hosted by Matt Baram and Naomi Snieckus, founding Co-Artistic Directors of the three-time Canadian Comedy Award-winning The National Theatre of the World. The American Museum of Natural History Announces Next Manhattanhenge Dates, 7/11-12

Four nights a year, the streets of Manhattan's grid become the site for a stunning sunset phenomenon known as Manhattanhenge. During Manhattanhenge, the sun sets in perfect alignment with Manhattan's East-West-numbered streets, creating cinema-worthy photo opportunities. This July, the full sun will be visible on the grid on Friday, July 11, at 8:24 pm and the half sun will be visible on Saturday, July 12, at 8:25 pm. Prime locations to view the phenomenon are large cross streets such as, 14th, 34th, 42nd, 57th, and 79th. For optimal viewing at these locations, participants should arrive a half-hour earlier than the times given. O n July 11, the American Museum of Natural History's Hayden Planetarium will also be hosting a public program highlighting the history and astronomy of this spectacle. Starting at 7 p.m., Jackie Faherty, a research associate in the Museum's Department of Astrophysics, will give a special presentation followed by a viewing of the event at 79th Street. (more...)
