Cav championship t-shirts and Indian's garb were worn by many of the strollers. Playing, Elizabeth, the woman whose life splits into parallel paths due to one fateful choice, is Jackie Burns, a Connecticut native who is returning to her home state to bring this contemporary musical to the Bushnell stage. Harand Theatre Camp Mourns Beloved Co-Founder

Sulie Harand Friedman, co-founder of Harand Camp of the Theatre Arts, passed away Saturday evening, August 6 at the age of 97.  Sulie was preceded in death by Harand Camp co-founders - husband Byron Friedman, sister Pearl Harand Gaffin, and brother-in-law Sam Gaffin.  In addition to her legacy as a teacher, director and businesswoman through Harand Theatre Camp, Sulie was renowned for her one-woman interpretations of classic musicals. She will be remembered for her contributions to performing arts education and lasting impact on thousands of Haranders around the world. (more...)

BWW Review: SWEENEY TODD at Shaw Festival

From it's ominous sounding opening organ chords, Stephen Sondheim makes it clear that you are in for a macabre evening of theatre as his masterpiece SWEENEY TODD begins. What sounds almost too gruesome to be appropriate for a musical has over the years had audiences and critics alike arguing whether this is a musical comedy or opera. Since it's 1979 premiere it has been staged world wide by some of the most notable Opera companies in the world, from English National Opera to the Paris Opera and Lyric Opera of Chicago. An updated staging is happening this summer at the Glimmerglass Festival in Cooperstown, New York with noted Wagnerian bass Greer Grimsley playing the title character. (more...)
