I'm not sure what it is about Last Motel, but the setting feels very American. However we are told at the beginning that the setting is Barnsley. A man wearing a turkey (yes, really) on his head enters, carrying a woman's unconscious body.

Abalone is not having the best of days. After a robbery gone wrong, he knocked down a woman. Not wanting to be convicted for hit and run, he kidnaps the woman and takes her to a motel room. His logic here is more than a little questionable.

As the story begins to unfold he discovers that his hostage is infact a vicar. He seeks redemption but the plot takes a dark twist and the tables are turned with the hostage soon manipulating her captor.

The venue is an important part of this play, the claustrophobic setting adds to the isolation of the motel room. This is a reasonably interesting piece of theatre that manages to hold audience attention for 50minutes. The script is a little ropey in places and it gets a bit too unbelievable at times.

Last Motel runs at Sweet Venues at Apex International Hotel until August 10th.
