REAL WOMEN HAVE CURVES
The Douglas Morrisson Theatre 2016-2017, 37th season launches with the regional premiere of Josefina López's newly updated award-winning comedy Real Women Have Curves. DMT is tremendously excited to be presenting the regional premiere of Ms. Lopez's updated version, which first premiered at the Mission Cultural Center over 25 years ago in a production by El Teatro de la Esperanza.
Josefina López is best known as the playwright of Real Women Have Curves and the co-author of the film of the same name, and is also currently developing the musical version of Real Women Have Curves for Broadway.
DMT's production of Real Women Have Curves is directed by Katja Rivera and features five outstanding Bay Area actors: Emily Alvarado as Rosali, Janelle Aguirre as Ana, Leticia Duarte as Estela, Annette Oliveira as Carmen and Elena Ruggiero as Pancha.
Theatre creative team for Real Women Have Curves is comprised of designers with credits from numerous Bay Area theatres and beyond, including TheatreWorks, Aurora Theatre Co. and Shotgun Players: Andrea Bechert (Scenic Designer), Donald Tieck (Sound Designer), Allen Willner (Lighting Designer) and Courtney Flores (Costume Designer).
A heartfelt celebration of real women with real bodies working together, Real Women Have Curves will have 15 performances, including one preview, August 25 through September 18, 2016, at the Douglas Morrisson Theatre, 22311 N. Third St. in Hayward, CA. The Douglas Morrisson Theatre is located at 22311 N. Third St. in Hayward, next to the Senior Center and the Japanese Gardens.
