Contra Costa Civic Theatre has announced their production of Barefoot in the Park.

About the show: "It is 1963 and Corie and Paul are settling into their new married life in a tiny apartment in Manhattan. Sounds simple enough, but Neil Simon takes the simplistic and brilliantly weaves in an eccentric neighbor, a meddling mother, and plenty of laughs to create one of theatre’s sweetest and funniest romantic comedies."

"The quirky and colorful Corie and the proper and predictable Paul are the perfect example of opposites attracting. Can he ever understand her? Can she loosen him up? Maybe a walk in the park is all that is needed….barefoot, perhaps?"

When asked why he chose this show, Director Dennis Markam says, “It's a really fun show that also happens to be deceptively difficult to put on yet totally worth it because of the really great characters that Neil Simon created. In building this production with this cast we've tried -- and I believe succeeded -- in picking up all of the clues that Mr. Simon left for us as to who these people are. And that's the thing; they really are people, not just characters -- or caricatures. “
Barefoot in the Park opened on Broadway in 1963 and was nominated for several Tony Awards. It became a well know movie in 1967 starring Robert Redford and Jane Fonda. The play was revived on Broadway in 2006.

Cast includes: Danny Cozart, Marcus Klinger, Shay Oglesby-Smith, Henry Perkins, Joel Roster, and Ginny Wehrmeister.

Set designed and built by Henry Perkins, lighting design by Joe D’Emilio and sound by Jeremy Katz. Lisa Danz designed costumes. Props are by Derrick Silva. Maureen Ray is the Producer.
Barefoot in the Park closes March 4th at 2pm.

Tickets are $20, $11 for ages 16 and under and may be purchased online at www.ccct.org or by phone at 510-524-9132.

Contra Costa Civic Theatre is located at 951 Pomona Avenue (at Moeser), with free parking in an adjoining lot.
