Auditions for The Old Globe's 2010 Summer Shakespeare Intensive will be held on March 13 and 14. The four week program is a unique opportunity for High School actors and actresses to refine their skills as performers in a professional setting. The Intensive will take place on weekdays, July 19 - August 16, with full scholarships provided to all students accepted into the program. The students will study classical theater technique, voice, movement and stage combat led by theater professionals while rehearsing for two bilingual (English/Spanish) productions of Shakespeare's plays. The program will culminate with a performance of the plays in the outdoor Lowell Davies Festival Theater on August 16. The original Old Globe Theatre was built in 1935 for the presentation of abridged versions of Shakespeare's plays as part of the California Pacific International Exposition. To celebrate the Globe's 75th anniversary, this year the students will perform 50 minute versions of both Twelfth Night and As You Like It. Throughout the Intensive, the students have the unique opportunity to study Shakespeare while observing the productions of the Globe's Shakespeare Festival, which runs concurrently with the program. Festival company members are able to lend the students insights into the art of performing Shakespeare that they then apply to their own performances of the Bard's work. Last year, while rehearsing for their sold-out production of Shakespeare's Pericles, Prince of Tyre, the students attended workshops conducted by Patrick Page, Paige Davis, James Newcomb, Katie McNichol and Bruce Turk.Videos
