San Diego Women's Chorus Welcomes New Singers On August 7th

After an incredibly busy July in which the chorus traveled to Denver to perform for thousands at the GALA International Festival, produced their inspirational summer concert "Guided By the Heart," and participated in San Diego Pride festivities, the San Diego Women's Chorus (SDWC) now has its sights set on its upcoming fall season!

SDWC is looking to add talented voices to the chorus for their Fall 2016 season and invites interested singers to attend SDWC's New Member Orientation and Info Session on Sunday, August 7 at 4pm at the chorus' rehearsal location, the Mission Hills United Church of Christ, 4070 Jackdaw Street, 92103.

Rehearsals begin the following week, August 14, for SDWC's 29th Annual Fall concert, "Everything She Touches," presented on November 19th and 20th at the Creative Performing & Media Arts Middle School.

The San Diego Women's Chorus is a lesbian-identified, feminist sisterhood of musicians that welcomes members and volunteers from the vastly diverse LGBTQ and straight-ally communities.

SDWC welcomes singers of all skill levels. Reading music is a plus, but not a requirement. Singers need not prepare a formal audition piece, but will be voiced by the Artistic Director to show they are able to match pitch to piano within an SSAA (Soprano/Alto) range. In addition, members must be able to hold their part in a group and commit to support and further the mission of the chorus.

SDWC invites all who love to sing and are passionate about the SDWC mission to encourage women's creativity, celebrate diversity and inspire social action to join.

Founded in 1987 by community activist Dr. Cynthia Lawrence, SDWC has grown from a group of 14 lesbians gathered around a piano in a private home to a thriving community with over 125 members who believe in the power of music and the power of women. For nearly 30 years, SDWC has provided a safe space that encourages women's creativity, celebrates diversity, and inspires social action.

San Diego Women's Chorus is a non-profit community chorus that strives to entertain and inspire audiences with music that speaks to issues as diverse as human rights, love, world peace, religious freedom, environmental harmony, inclusion and cultural diversity. SDWC supports and affirms the music of women, as well as lesbian and gay composers and arrangers.
