Milagro Receives Over $35,000 in Support of Original Programming, Community Engagement

In May 2015, Miracle Theatre Group aka Milagro, the Northwest's premier Latino arts and culture organization, received $35,256 in grants to support Milagro's artistic programming & community engagement efforts.

On May 4, 2015, the Thorndike Family Rogue Valley Fund of the Oregon Community Foundation awarded Milagro with a $750 grant to support an arts education residency of Sueños de Fútbol in Jackson County, Oregon. Sueños de Fútbol has engaging arts-integrated workshops that are led by the teaching artists who perform in the play. Performances are paired with "Pok-A-Tok" workshops that infuse theatre arts with soccer activities. These workshops increase student engagement and promote health and physical activity as well as artistic and creative pursuits.

On May 8, 2015, on behalf of Victor Merced of Hacienda CDC, as thanks for his service on the Wells Fargo Advisory Board, Wells Fargo awarded Milagro $500 in general operating support. Wells Fargo donated $1.1 billion to nonprofits over the last four years (2011-2014) to support and revitalize communities, help charitable organizations and grow local economies, including more than $281.2 million to 17,100 nonprofits and schools in 2014. On May 18, 2015, The Kinsman Foundation awarded Milagro a grant of $17,500 in support of its 32nd season in 2015-16. Milagro has a strong history of serving its large and diverse community with unique, culturally specific programming. The organization has increased its investment in artistic creation; strengthened the governance and fundraising capacity of its board of directors; revamped its fundraising, financial and information management systems to industry standards; and expanded its endeavors in local arts education.

The Kinsman Foundation is a private foundation established in 1983 and built on the philanthropy of John and Elizabeth T. Kinsman of Milwaukie, Oregon. On May 19, 2015, the Ventura Group presented Milagro with $1,506 to support a performance of the touring production, Searching for Aztlán, at the new Selma Performance Art Center in Selma, CA. Searching for Aztlán explores Chicano history from the time of the Aztecs through the present movement of Los MEChistAs.

On May 26, 2015, the Shubert Foundation awarded Milagro a grant in the amount of $15,000 in general operating support. This extraordinary grant will allow Milagro to maintain its home production schedule and touring programs, advance experimental programming, better serve the people of Oregon, and strategically plan for the future of the organization.

The Shubert Foundation is dedicated to sustaining and advancing the live performing arts in the United States, with a particular emphasis on theatre and a secondary focus on dance. It was established in 1945 by Lee and J.J. Shubert in memory of their brother Sam, and is the sole shareholder of The Shubert Organization, Inc., which currently owns/operates 21 theatres: 17 on Broadway, one Off-Broadway theatre (The Little Shubert), and one each in Boston and Philadelphia.
