Fans of Downton Abbey's clandestine romances, saucy betrayals and period costumes will find plenty to love in The Heiress, Ruth and Augustus Goetz' Tony and Oscar-winning masterpiece of love and betrayal.

Based on Henry James' novel, Washington Square, this psychological drama examines the mores and status consciousness of 1850s New York society. The story centers on the shy and sheltered Catherine Sloper, daughter of a wealthy widower. When Catherine acquires a fast-moving suitor, her distant and controlling father suspects the charming young man is really only interested in her money. As events unfold, the slow arc of her revenge leads to a chilling end, where the rewards of cruelty are revealed.

Helmed by Carol MacLeod, Founder and Artistic Director of The Studio, The Heiress features Studio members Heidi Haggerty, Kent Welborn, Stephen Mastroieni, Judy Lebeau, Ashley Faulkner, Susan Back and Steven Fajardo, along with Alexandra Erario.

"It is a challenging and exciting opportunity to present The Heiress because of the richness of its theatrical and literary history," says MacLeod. "There's a richness in its almost perfect structure, its compelling characters and exciting roles for actors, and its timeless message. What a wonderful opportunity for all of us involved to explore this compelling play from the treasury of American Drama."

The Heiress has had three award-winning productions on Broadway in the last 55 years in addition to being a celebrated novella by American Novelist, Henry James. Despite being one of literature's greatest novelists, James really wanted to pen a smash-hit for the stage. Now, thanks to the Goetzes and this exciting new production from Theatre Artists Studio, The Heiress realizes a century-long dream.

This production is being presented under the auspices of the Actor's Equity Association Members Project Code.
