The Caleb Reese Festival of New Plays and Musicals is the future of new American theatre! The festival is a vibrant collaboration highlighting the incredible talent of playwrights, directors, composers, lyricists and actors from across the country. At the core of the festival are five staged readings of full-length plays. This year's selections are:

The Things We Do by Grant Woods

Community by Stephen Kaplan

The Lemonade Stand by Matthew Fowler

Something for Sondra by Dave Osmundsen

We Should Kill Caesar - based on William Shakerspeares' Julius Caesar adapted by Quetta Carpenter

In addition, there will be an evening of short plays, two composer/lyricist cabarets, and other events and activities. An audience talk-back accompanies every performance.

Phoenix Theatre is committed to the development of original works by new voices. The Festival creates opportunities for playwrights, composers and lyricists to present their original work in a way that fosters conversation, discussion and ultimately guides the evolution of the work itself. It is the audience's reaction and response that sparks the genesis of development and paves the way to a full-scale production.

It is only with the audience's help that The Caleb Reese Festival of New Plays and Musicals has ushered many new works into full-scale productions - be a part of the future!

The Caleb Reese Festival of New Plays and Musicals runs from May 5 through May 13, 2017. Individual tickets can be purchased for $10 by calling 602.254.2151 or by visiting phoenixtheatre.com.

In this, our 97th season, we are producing eight remarkable productions on the Walton Stage of the Mainstage Theatre and in the intimate setting of the Hormel Theatre. In May, we will host our 19th Annual Festival of New Plays and Musicals presented by Caleb Reese; two weeks that foster the development of new and original work and contribute to the American theatre canon.

Offstage, we strive to give back to our community. The nationally recognized Pope Professional Apprenticeship program provides valuable on-the-job training to future arts leaders in areas of production. Our Partners That Heal program provides comfort and entertainment to children and families in healthcare and crisis facilities. Our experiential summer programming nurtures the performing artist inside each of us, promoting confidence and providing interactive theatrical and dance experiences for children, teens and adults.

Every show or service we provide is always measured against our mission - to create exceptional theatrical experiences by using the arts to articulate messages that inspire hope and understanding. Welcome to Phoenix Theatre.
