Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts will open the 25th-anniversary season of Sunday A'Fair on Jan. 15 with free outdoor concerts by The Samba Project and Walt Richardson & The Peaceful Warriors from noon to 4 p.m.

Sponsored by Scottsdale Insurance Company and Nationwide Foundation, Sunday A'Fair takes place in Scottsdale Civic Center Park next to Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts on selected Sundays from Jan. 15 to April 15. Guests are invited to bring blankets, lawn chairs or picnic baskets and enjoy a relaxing afternoon of great entertainment. Each event features free outdoor concerts by the Valley's top musicians along with fine arts and crafts, fun activities for children and families, and free admission to Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (SMoCA) courtesy of Lewis & Roca LLP. Delicious foods from the grill, snacks and cocktails, beer, wine and soft drinks are also available for purchase.

Highlights of the 2012 Sunday A'Fair season include Peace & Community Day on Jan. 15; the AZ Rocks! Arizona Centennial Celebration on Feb. 12 featuring The Persuaders and Cold Shott and The Hurricane Horns; and the weekend-long OrigiNation: A Festival of Native Cultures on April 14–15, presented in conjunction with the 10th season of Native Trails and Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts' Discovery Series exploring the arts of Australia and New Zealand. The Center and Scottsdale International Film Festival also will present the Discovery Film Series with screenings of award-winning films from Down Under, including This Way of Life on Jan. 22, Mrs. Carey's Concert on Feb. 26 and Life In Movement on March 25. Each film will be screened in the Virginia G. Piper Theater at noon and at 4 p.m. with admission of $10.

JANUARY 15 – Peace & Community Day
A day of unity in conjunction with the Scottsdale Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration, presented by Community Celebrating Diversity.

Noon – 1:30 p.m.
The Samba Project
Vibrant Brazilian rhythms and songs, including samba, bossa nova, capoeira, reggae and more.

2 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Walt Richardson & The Peaceful Warriors
Original world pop infused with folk, blues, African and Latin beats.

3 p.m.
Free guided walking tour of the sculptures in the park.

JANUARY 22
Noon – 1:30 p.m.
The Jan Sandwich Quartet
Classic jazz standards from the Great American Songbook.

2 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Ritmo Latino
The electrifying rhythms of salsa, Cumbia, cha-cha-cha and jazz.

3 p.m.
Free guided walking tour of the sculptures in the park.

FEBRUARY 12 – AZ Rocks! Arizona Centennial Celebration
Noon – 1:30 p.m.
The Persuaders
Melodic but crunchy guitar-driven rock 'n' roll, performed by former members of The Gin Blossoms, The Pistoleros and Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers.

2 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Cold Shott and The Hurricane Horns
Award-winning blues with sizzling horns, powerful vocals and a rocking rhythm section.

3 p.m.
Free guided walking tour of the sculptures in the park.

FEBRUARY 19

KC Blues Band
Bluesy-jazzy funk-rock performed by 19-year-old guitar sensation Kevin Casenhiser (aka KC Blues) and his five-piece band.

Mogollon
First-rate country-rock with incredible vocals, guitar wizardry and dueling fiddles.

3 p.m.
Free guided walking tour of the sculptures in the park.

FEBRUARY 26

Chuck Hall Band
A spicy Texas stew of originals and unique arrangements of blues-based standards.

Powerdrive
Red-hot salsa dance numbers, R&B, classic oldies and Tex-Mex.

Mark Zubia and Los Guys
A heady mix of roots, country and classic pop with rough-hewn charm and rock 'n' roll spirit.

Arizona's premier house-rockin' blues, soul, swing and funk band.

Thatz That
Jazzy tunes from the '50s, '60s and '70s.

APRIL 8

The Biffos
Celtic rock featuring creative originals and covers of U2, Steve Earle and The Pogues.

2 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Traveler
A fresh, global sound of exotic instrumentation, high-energy performances and traditional Middle Eastern, Greek, Gypsy, Indian and Celtic music.

3 p.m.
Free guided walking tour of the sculptures in the park.

APRIL 14–15 – OrigiNation: A Festival of Native Cultures
Saturday and Sunday, Noon – 4 p.m.
Presented in conjunction with Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts' Discovery Series and the 10th Anniversary of Native Trails, this weekend-long event celebrates the indigenous cultures of Arizona, Australia and New Zealand through music, dance, art and more.

LOCATION AND PARKING
Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts is located at 7380 E. Second St. in downtown Scottsdale, four blocks south of Indian School Road and three blocks east of Scottsdale Road. Free parking is available in the public parking garage located to the west of Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts on Wells Fargo Avenue. Additional free parking is available at the Old Town Parking Corral at East Second Street and Brown Avenue and at the Civic Center Library parking garage located on Drinkwater Boulevard at East Second Street.

The Store @ Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts offers a unique selection of art-related merchandise, including handmade jewelry, imaginative toys, decorative objects from around the world, original furnishings for the home and office and music, books and greeting cards. Members receive a 10-percent discount, and gift-wrapping and shipping also are available. Purchases are tax-free and support the programs of Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts.
