Black Swan State Theatre Company is proud to present the World Premiere of A Perfect Specimen in the Studio Underground, State Theatre Centre of WA from Thursday 30 June to Sunday 17 July.

Theodore Lent (Luke Hewitt) is a calculating businessman on the cutting edge of one of America's most popular exports: the travelling freak show. When his wife and star attraction Julia (Adriane Daff) falls pregnant, Theo couldn't be happier. What could be better than two stars for the price of one?

However, dark clouds are forming in Theo's immediate future, as he begins taking steps toward the decision that will cost him his friends, his sanity, and perhaps even his life...

A heart-wrenching world premiere of the tragic, true tale of Julia Pastrana from acclaimed WA playwright and 2013 Emerging Writers Group prize winner, Nathaniel Moncrieff.

Artistic Director of Black Swan, Kate Cherry says "A Perfect Specimen belies a unique writing talent in Nathaniel Moncrieff and sophisticated theatricality and uses a true story to examine our obsessions with beauty and the grotesque."
