Williams will be welcomed to The Understudy for a book signing on Monday, July 31st. The event will run from 7:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.

League of Chicago Theatres to Host Career Fair This Month

The League of Chicago Theatres has announced a free Theatre Industry Career Fair at the Mundelein Center for Fine and Performing Arts at Loyola University, 1020 W. Sheridan Rd in Chicago.  The event opens with a panel discussion, “Different Journeys through the Performing Arts Landscape” at 1pm followed by a tabling event, including information sessions with Chicago theatre professionals, resume reviews, speed interviews, headshot photography and more from 2pm-5pm.

Rivendell Announces Extension of THE CAKE

Rivendell Theatre Ensemble (RTE), Chicago's only Equity theatre dedicated to producing new work with women at the core will add four performances to the run The Cake by Bekah Brunstetter, directed by Lauren Shouse, and featuring RTE Founders Tara Mallen and Keith Kupferer, RTE Member Krystel McNeil, with Tuckie White.  Eight performances have been added to the run, which must close June 2, 2018 at Rivendell Theatre Ensemble, 5779 N. Ridge Avenue in Chicago. 

CPS Students Nia Safro And Chisom Chima To Represent Chicago At The National August Wilson Monologue Competition

The League of Chicago Theatres, Goodman Theatre, the University of Illinois at Chicago, Broadway In Chicago and competition organizer Derrick Sanders announce the three Chicago finalists for the 9th Annual August Wilson Monologue Competition: Nia Safro from Chicago High School for the Performing Arts (first place, performed Molly, Joe Turner's Come and Gone); Chisom Chima from Nicholas Senn High School (second place; performed King, King Hedley II); and Evan Simpson from Chicago High School for the Performing Arts (third place, performed Youngblood, Jitney). The top three Chicago finalists were awarded scholarships in the amount of $500, $250 and $100, respectively. The top two winning students will receive expenses paid to travel to New York City for the National Finals, where they will compete on May 7, 2018.

Goodman Theatre continues its partnership with Chicago Public Library by presenting Stage Chemistry lessons at select branches, as part of each location's ongoing programming. These sessions are a part of Mayor Rahm Emanuel's "Summer of Learning" (through August 10), which encourages young people to participate in activities focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM). The Stage Chemistry lessons focus on the physics of lighting in the Goodman's production of The Jungle Book (now through August 18).
