Pochi giorni fa (martedi 28 aprile, per l'esattezza), sono state finalmente annunciate le candidature ai Tony Awards 2015, premi che si terranno domenica 7 giugno al Radio City Music Hall (New York). Si tratta della sessantanovesima edizione dei premi che portano indelebile il nome di Antoinette Perry (da cui 'Tony'), attrice e leader dell'American Theatre Wing. I premi saranno presentati dal dinamico duo Alan Cumming ('Cabaret', 'Macbeth') e Kristin Chenoweth (nota soprattutto per aver interpretato il ruolo di Glinda nel cast originale di 'Wicked').

Good morning, BroadwayWorld! Because we know all our readers eat, sleep and breathe Broadway, what could be better than waking up to it? Today's big news: FISH IN THE DARK welcomes back a star, we find out this year's Theatre World Award winners, and THE AUDIENCE returns to the West End!

Broadway legend Joel Grey (CABARET, WICKED) and Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein (FINDING NEVERLAND) will be the honorees at this year's Fred and Adele Astaire Awards. The gala evening celebrates the 2015 season's outstanding dance and choreography on Broadway and film. The event will take place on June 1, 2015 at NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts. My wife and I decided not to watch this morning so we got up 7:30, grabbed some coffee and we went to a park nearby and decided to talk and mediate and appreciate the things that have happened this year. I had a really good year got married, go the show - it's been the best year of my life so it really didn't matter happy or sad. So, I gave her my phone when it started to ring and she started screaming and crying and I started to jump around like an idiot. I really was in shock. We had a couple walk by us and they must have assumed we just found out we were pregnant or just got engaged i just hugged and kissed my wife for being the most amazing rock.

At 8:30 AM comes the announcement any theatre fan has been awaiting all year for...This Year's Tony Nominations! Tony-Winner Mary Louise Parker announces the nominations along with Bruce Willis, who's soon-to-be making his Broadway debut this fall in a new stage adaptation of the Stephen King novel, Misery. On May 21, Brooklyn-based band Sky-Pony (led by Tony nominee Lauren Worsham) will hit the stage at club 42W, on a bill with The Deafening (led by Tony winner Lena Hall) and Australian pop star Brendan Maclean. Also appearing: special guests Grace McLean and Emmy winner Lance Horne. It's part of the Broadway the Hardway series, presented by Jacob Langfelder, which showcases rock groups with Broadway connections.

ON THE TOWN's Alysha Umphress and Jay Armstrong Johnson stopped by this morning's TODAY to perform the number 'I Can Cook Too' from the hit Broadway musical.

The Outer Critics Circle, the organization of writers covering New York theatre for out-of-town newspapers, national publications and other media beyond Broadway announced the nominees this morning for the 2014-15 season. The first major Broadway/Off-Broadway award nominees of the New York theater season, the organization is celebrating its 64th season of bestowing awards of excellence in the field of theater. The Outer Critics Circle is an association with members affiliated with more than ninety newspapers, magazines, radio and television stations, Internet, and theatre publications in America and abroad.
