Chita Rivera, Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical, THE VISIT
This is wonderful! After 14 years that we finally got it up and on Broadway. We are so proud of it. Freddie [Ebb] is not here but we all know that he is here in spirit. And I'm so happy for John [Kander]. It's good stuff! II was not up to watch the announcement this morning- I would be the furthest away from it! My friend and assistant woke me up this morning scared me half to death! She yelled, "Congratulations" and I almost fell out of bed! And then of course I heard from my daughter. It's so nice that everybody is wishing us such luck and has been so supportive of the show. They are happy for us. I'm gonna do the show tonight and we are all going to give 500%. It will be a great show, I'm sure.

Sting, Best Original Score (Music and/or Lyrics) Written for the Theatre for The Last Ship
"I'm so thrilled! I was in the gym working out and someone came to find me to tell me I was nominated. I just carried on working out! I was completely blown away. I am just a newcomer at this. I have no expectations. I'm also so thrilled that my arranger got a nomination as well. I'm just going to try to enjoy the day. The Last Ship was a joy from start to finish. This is just the cream on the cake now. This has been the most joyous experience of my life!"

Robert Fairchild, Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical, An American in Paris
I was watching this morning... I couldn't sleep. I was too excited at the possibility of it! Not that I even thought it would actually happen. It feels like life is so great and so full. I'm so grateful for every opportunity that has come my way. You want to give these opportunities the effort they deserve and do them the justice they deserve, so I'm trying to do that. I'm going to celebrate with my personal trainer today and then to the show! I think it will be a good one tonight.

Christian Borle Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical for Something Rotten!
"
I set my alarm and made my coffee to watch today! It starts late every time! It's so exciting. The whole experience has been like dream. From Kevin McCullum making the decision to come in... that was such a wonderful surprise... and getting to work with my good friend Casey [Nicholaw] again in this way has been so wonderful. He's better than ever. I've just fallen in love with the cast and crew and musicians. We already get to do the show every night. This is just like getting invited to the best party. No joke, I think I'm just going to sit down and celebrate with an omelette!

Helen Mirren, Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Play, THE AUDIENCE
"It is a honor to be nominated and to become a part of the grand tradition of American theatre. I am very lucky that I speak American! Albeit in the play with a very British accent. It is a very exciting season on Broadway, with many great plays, musicals, and performances, so just to be a part of that is a thrill."

Bradley Cooper, Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play, The Elephant Man
"To be a part of a community that gathers together in a 13 block radius, eight shows a week, no matter what, in the greatest city in the world - for one sole purpose, to tell stories - I can't think of a better job to have. Thank you for letting The Elephant Man be a part of this season's story telling."

Elisabeth Moss, Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Play for The Heidi Chronicles
"
I am so honored to be nominated, especially with all of these incredible actresses who I admire so much. I must admit it's a life long dream come true for me because I have so much respect for the theater community and the hard work that goes into doing theater. I am so proud of this play and all of the people involved in it who have done such stellar work and share this nomination with all of them. Most of all I share this with Wendy Wasserstein who wrote, not only one of the great female characters ever written for the stage, but one of the great "human" characters ever written for the stage. Thank you Wendy, a heroine for the 21st, for writing this beautiful play. "

Kristin Chenoweth, Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical, ON THE TWENTIETH CENTURY
"What an honor! I am so proud of our show. I get to go to work every day smiling. And every day I leave, still smiling. I've wanted to do this role since I was 19. Needless to say, I've been waiting a while. Haha"

Brian d'Arcy James, Best Performance by an Actor for Something Rotten! in a Leading Role in a Musical

"I'm positively thrilled to have received a Tony nomination this morning. I'm excited for this fantastic show Something Rotten!, and for my colleagues Christian Borle and Brad Oscar who were also acknowledged. Every Tuesday should start this way!" ... "Bruce Willis said my name on TV." (from Twitter)

Kelli O'Hara, Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical, THE KING AND I

"I've never actually watched the announcement before... my manager came over with balloons and muffins and said that we could celebrate and watch together. I said, "But I haven't even heard anything yet!" And she said, "Were taking the risk!" This one is so special because so many of the team were recognized. I've been through this before, and I can tell you that it's so much more fun to be able to celebrate with all of them. We're so happy and already so proud of the show no matter what, but this is just wonderful. I'm going to spend some time with the kids today and then maybe go shopping for a new dress to meet the press tomorrow."

Judy Kuhn, Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical for Fun Home

It was very funny because there was flood of texts and phone calls this morning. The first one was from my old friend Seth Rudetsky. I guess he was there in the room and he congratulated me and then second later my husband called, who was watching the live stream from his office. Its so funny because Its so unlike him to do that, but I guess he was nervous for me! I can't be more thrilled, not just for me, but because so many of my collegues we acknowledged. It is really special . We love this show a lot. We are all so committed and to have it get the embraced by the audiences AND the theatre community is just fantastic. It's just been incredible already.

Michael Cerveris, Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical, Fun Home

"I was asleep through the announcement today! Especially because I'm in New Orleans right now. I'm in a car on my way to the airport. I skipped out of town quickly because I wanted to recharge my batteries so I came down here to refuel and now I'm heading back to join what I'm sure is a really happy bunch of people. I'm possibly even more excited because so many of us are acknowledged. It underlines what a communal effort it is and such an extremely talented bunch of artists. I hope it means that people who haven't heard about it will at least look at the acknowledgements and say, "They must be doing something right!" I'm not saying that there wont be champagne on the flight back today! The absolute best way to celebrate is to tell our story tonight with these people who I've become so close to. It's the absolute best!"

Andy Karl, Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical, ON THE TWENTIETH CENTURY
"
This is truly a great honor and never would have expected a nomination two times in a row. True bliss.
I am so happy for on the 20th century and for my leading lady Kristin Chenoweth."

Annaleigh Ashford, Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Play, You Can't Take It with You
"I'm actually in LA right now filming the third season of Masters of Sex. So, I was asleep and my alarm clock was about to go off for me to get up for the day, but my husband came and woke me up and said, "I think we have to get my tux out of storage, because we are going to the Tonys!" I'm just so honored to get to represent this wonderful show and this wonderful company. Working on this show was an absolute joy. I'll be celebrating today by wearing 1960s garments and working! I'm so grateful - You Can't Take it With You was truly one of the greatest experiences!"

Sydney Lucas, Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical Fun Home
"
I'm excited for Judy and Ben and Emily and Sam and everyone who was nominated. The way I found out, well actually I was watching CBS but they didn't announce all the awards so we quickly ran to broadwayworld and found it and we watched it live. I was stunned, absolutely stunned and excited and I felt like I was dreaming - I was like, somebody pinch me. I have a show tonight, so that will be a celebration, but then I still have homework to do but maybe I can persuade my family to go to my favorite restaurant which has the best sushi in the world. I think the show tonight will be I think it will be extra energetic."

Jeanine Tesori, Best Original Score (Music and/or Lyrics) Written for the Theatre, Fun Home
"I am so proud of that cast. I am so happy for them all. I was watching the announcement live and it was hysterical because Lisa, who lives in Brooklyn, was streaming it and there was a delay and an echo. So I would give a shout and then she would give a shout and then my new puppy would give a shout. And when I saw all three Alisons had been recognized I lost my voice because I screamed so loud and the puppy literally fell off the bed cartoon-style.

It's so great for us as a whole. You know we made the show as a team and the team worked really well together. We all got on the same page right away and with any team, even with field hockey or soccer, you don't get there alone. And we got there with integrity, a good sense of humor and a bottle of bourbon and we just worked. And I'm so proud of the subject matter, and we had a beautiful book to work with and a real family, so there was pressure to make it as good as people felt when they read the book and they did.

As far as celebrating, well the great thing about having a new puppy, I just picked up some poop, some pee and a little vomit so it keeps me real! I'm working on City Center now so I'm going to take a day to just breathe and be happy for everyone. "

Nathaniel Parker, Wolf Hall Parts One & Two, Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Play

I got the news waking up and hearing the phone vibrating next to my bed, and thought "I wonder if..." My first call of course was to my wife, and now I'm the happiest man in the world making both my morning coffee and porridge!

Karey Kirkpatrick, Best Original Score (Music and/or Lyrics) Written for the Theatre, Something Rotten!

I'm at the recording of the cast album this morning, so I was with the ensemble when we heard the news! There was much neck squeezing. My neck hurts...but in a good way! It's all gravy now. The dream was to see it on the marquee. That was hard to believe that it would ever happen, having worked on it so long. That day was so special. The rest has been a roller coaster of one piece of good fortune after the next. Actuallym my first Tonys memory was watching Matthew Broderick accept for Torch Song Trilogy. We were close in age I thought, 'Well that would be nice!' And this morning was wild because I directed Bruce [Willlis] in Over the Hedge! We toured Europe together and spent a lot of time together. How could we have known back then! I can't think of a better way to celebrate today than to be with these people!

Sam Gold, Best Direction of a Musical Fun Home

I'm doing great - it's an exciting morning. I was watching the nominations with my wife and my 7 month old until my 7 month old grabbed the remote control and decided to turned it off as they were announcing the best lead actor in a play category because I guess she didn't want to hear about it. But it's so nice to have the show receive so much attention. I'm in tech for a play so I'll be celebrating by continuing to work, which is the best way to celebrate. We poured so much of ourselves into this show and it was a labor of love and we loved the material and the book it was inspired by and it was a huge weight on our shoulders to do the book proud and today that weight is starting to lift!

I'm in shock right now I cannot believe it I'm even happier for Steve and everyone else. I'm beyond happy I've been squealing with joy since it happened. My husband and I are going for lunch to the Waldorf Astoria to celebrate and then I have an audition because I m still a working actor!

Geneva Carr, Hand to God, Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Play
My husband woke me this morning so that we could watch together. So we watched and we just screamed. But he must have had hope that I would get the nomination because he had already made the reservation at the Waldorf!

I'm so thankful for my agents who have been with me since 1999. I owe so much to Kevin McCullum who has believed in the since it's been in workshop. It's just very exciting!

Tony Yazbeck, On the Town, Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical
My wife and I decided not to watch this morning so we got up 7:30, grabbed some coffee and we went to a park nearby and decided to talk and mediate and appreciate the things that have happened this year. I had a really good year got married, go the show - it's been the best year of my life so it really didn't matter happy or sad. So, I gave her my phone when it started to ring and she started screaming and crying and I started to jump around like an idiot. I really was in shock. We had a couple walk by us and they must have assumed we just found out we were pregnant or just got engaged I just hugged and kissed my wife for being the most amazing rock.

Right now I'm just trying to return text messages and calls and talk to close family to thank them for every ounce of support. Later today I'll be teaching musical theater technique class and then I'm off to work just like every other gypsy actor, but I'll have an extra spring in my step today. This role is like a dream come true, so when you have the opportunity you just have to feel blessed.

Rob Mathes, Best Orchestrations for The Last Ship
"I am beyond thrilled and humbled to be nominated for Best Orchestrations for The Last Ship. I have been working with Sting for five years on a work that I truly feel is his finest. As everyone knows, getting everything right in the making of a musical is sometimes impossible. That said, every night at the Neil Simon Theatre we had people in tears and completely enthralled with the world Sting grew up in; the industrial landscape of Newcastle, England at the end of the era of English Shipbuilding. These songs came from Sting's blood and bones. Orchestrating them in the vernacular of Northern English folk music with melodeons, fiddles and exotic Percussion instruments living alongside the musical warmth and sweep of Broadway and modern Pop with Cellos, Guitars and Synths was both a challenge and a joy. To be on the boards with so many of my heroes is absolutely incredible. My best friend in the world, the wonderful actor Jeb Brown, now starring in "The Undeniable Sound Of Right Now" at the Rattlestick, dragged this Rock/Jazz kid into town to see Sondheim and Bernstein when we were kids. I was completely flabbergasted and never in a million years thought I would ever be a part of that extraordinary world. To now be Tony nominated is, well, beyond beyond. Thank you Jeb and thank you Sting. I am a very grateful man this morning."

K. Todd Freeman, Best Featured Actor in a Play AIRLINE HIGHWAY
"I was watching the broadcast on my iPad with the sound muted, while Mary-Louise Parker, my dear friend since college, made the announcement. The closed captioning spelled my name Katie Freeman, so I wasn't quite sure I was nominated until another friend of mine called with the news. It's been a long time since my first nomination for another Steppenwolf show, The Song of Jacob Zulu, and I had set this as a goal since I moved back to New York four years ago. And I truly owe it to Joe Mantello, who should be nominated for his brilliant direction as well."

Carey Mulligan, Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Play, Skylight

"I couldn't be more thrilled for our cast, incredible director and ingenious creative team. I watched my first Broadway play at 14 and pictured myself up on that stage. For it not only to become a reality but then to be so generously and warmly accepted by this community is nothing short of a dream come true and is truly humbling."

Ken Watanabe, Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical, The King and I
"It is truly an honor to be recognized for my first role on an American stage. I couldn't have done it without everyone involved in "The King and I," particularly Bart Sher and Kelli O'Hara."

Sam Gold, Best Director of a Musical, Fun Home
"I love this show so much and care so deeply for my collaborators. I am overjoyed to see work that has meant so much to me be recognized. I watched Bruce Willis and Mary Louise Parker from bed with my wife and 7 month old. At one point right before a name was announced, the TV turned off. We looked over at our child who was holding the remote control with a devious grin. Very dramatic. But I didn't miss all the good news for our show."

Brad Oscar, Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical, Something Rotten!
I was watching live this morning on NY1 like we do! My husband got up to go to work and I told him to wake me up. We did the whole thing. It becomes a big morning as the day gets closer! My category was so late! It's so lovey to get the personal recognition, but I'm so proud to be on stage with these people every night. It's playing so well! So for the show itself to get this much love is just wonderful. I wish EVERYONE could get recognized. I would celebrate today, but I'm still trying to take it easy. We were in previews and we really worked hard! We had opening night... and then a five show weekend. As excited as I am and as much as I'd like to scream from the roof, I'm gonna try to conserve my energy. We start a normal week this week, and that's when the show really becomes what it is. You can't ask for a better way to celebrate than with this group of people.

Lisa Kron, Best Original Score (Music and/or Lyrics) Written for the Theatre Fun Home
I don't have a TV, but I was streaming the announcement online and on the phone with Jeanine [Tesori] at the same time. I'm just so thrilled, as I'm sure every single person feels today as well. Theatre takes a really long time and it really feels so wonderful to get this kind of news. Were definitely gonna have a celebratory moment tonight with the whole cast and crew before the show.

Jeremy Herrin, Best Direction of a Play, Jeremy Herrin, Wolf Hall Parts One & Two

I'm so delighted. I got called by my agent, he was up early this morning and I"m so happy because we worked so hard on this show and it feels like we got so many nominations which is really brilliant. It was my Broadway debut but since I was born in New York it really feels like an amazing homecoming. I always loved American theater so to get a nomination is brilliant. I'm sure we'll have a drink and celebrate and I'm in London now but I'll come early next week to see the show. I think it's great that the show has made such an impact.

Mikah Stock, Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Play, It's Only a Play

I really am overwhelmed by it. I saw the nominations on New York 1. I was really just watching to support the play and it was an incredible surprise. But, I really consider this as not my nomination it is for the entire cast, it's such an ensemble piece so anything that happens in my performance has everything to do with the beautiful music that surrounds me. I called my mother first and I spoke with Terrence and he's over the moon and I'm so grateful. I actually just got a text message from my 5th grade teacher! I am so overwhelmed, right now I'm just trying to get through the next five minutes!

Moritz von Stuelpnagel, Best Direction of a Play for Hand to God

I was having internet problems but I got them worked out and when I heard the news I was floored. My wife was screaming and my dog didn't know to make of it. I've never done this before this is so new to all of us. For so many of us it's our Broadway debut so we are completely baffled by it, it's not something we ever expected. The fact that we've come from a small off-Broadway theater to Times Square and and to be recognized it's more than we ever thought. So any of this is unchartered territory, and we are opposite amazing productions so we're just pretending we know what we're doing it!

The Cleveland Playhouse, Best Regional Theater
This is just a thrilling moment for the city of Cleveland, and all of the northeastern Ohio region, and of course for all of us at Cleveland Playhouse. When you think about all of the creativity and hard work that goes into creating a show, and then you multiply that by the number of shows in a season, and then again by 100 seasons, and you think about all of that hard work...this award is a HUGE recognition for all of the tens of thousands of actors, directors, designers and technicians, staff, and donors who have contributed to our past and our ongoing success. We were elated to get the news. We were all really hoping for it, but it was an amazing and thrilling moment- we're still riding high! There's no better way that we can think of to kick off this centennial season than with this incredible recognition!

Alessandro Nivola, Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Play for THE ELEPHANT MAN

"I'm filming in LA right now this movie called the Neon Demon, and I had a late night filming. I'm flying back home today. So I set my alarm for 8am and I figured if it didn't go off before then it would be bad news, and by 5:45 the phone started going crazy. It's the biggest day of my professional life so far! I've had excited moments but this the best. My career has been pretty old-fashioned- I started in the theatre. I started with drama schools and internships in theatres, and technical jobs. And then ended up on Broadway... and then it shifted to films in recent years. When I moved back to New York I recommitted myself to the theatre. It's been a fantastic thing and has affected my career all around. This is such a great reward. I was just on the phone with Scott Ellis and I realized that he has had such an impact on my career! He gave me my Broadway debut! That was what launched my career altogether. And this was the next time that we worked together. Now we can enjoy the next incarnation in London. I'm gonna film and maybe get liquored up before my jet blue flight. The flight attendants will definitely know that I'm having a good day!"

Julie White, Best Featured Actress in a Play for AIRLINE HIGHWAY

"I got a text from my agent that said 'YES!! I'll call you later,' but I still kind of didn't believe it. I thought he sent it to the wrong person, or it was a mistake, or maybe he was talking about something else. But then when I got a text from our stage manager congratulating me and K. Todd Freeman, it hit me that it really happened.

To have K. Todd Freeman, my partner in crime whom I love dearly, also be nominated is just amazing. I'm very proud of AIRLINE HIGHWAY and that the work we all are doing at the Friedman is being recognized."

Ben Miles, Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play, Wolf Hall Parts One & Two

I'm really excited and honored! Just to be a part of the Tonys and to be acknowledged by New York in general is such a thrill. It's a wonderful feeling to be recognized. The show got eight nominations, it wonderful. It's a sweep! I'm thrilled for the company and the producers and director. It's so well deserved. There been so much good faith and good will from the very beginning. I got a call from my wife in London this morning- that's how I heard. I don't know what I'm gonna do to celebrate. I'm sure the company will think up something!

Max Von Essen, Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical for An American in Paris

I was too nervous so I didn't get up to watch it but I didn't sleep at all but I heard my boyfriend downstairs screaming so I kind of figured I got the nomination and then I checked on Twitter and I knew it was official. Honestly it's a dream come true - it's a gift - you work your whole life and you know the point of doing it, you love to do it, you want to work but things like this come along and I truly feel like an 8 year old. I've dreamed about it as a kid in Long Island and it seemed unattainable - it's surreal. I can't believe I am now one of those people nominated, it takes my breath away. Its taken some time for me - my debut was 15 years ago so its come full circle. It's really going to be like a life long celebration! It will always say Tony nominee in front of my name. I will be living this for a long time to come. It's such a gift to know that at this moment, people have responded to something I was doing and have just accepted it and enjoyed it.

Joshua Bergasse Best Choreography for On the Town

I watched in on line in bed. I was thrilled - just so excited. This is my Broadway debut so to get to work on such a wonderful show with a great team of producers, the writers are so iconic, it's been such a wonderful time for me. The show was created with dance at the heart of it, so to make my debut in a show like this - I couldn't ask for more. I'm in rehearsals and meetings all day but when I showed up for rehearsal this morning, the cast had champagne and we had a toast and it reminds me of what it's all about being on stage and creating.

Craig Lucas Best Book of a Musical for An American in Paris

My dogs woke me up - I guess they were following the nominations on Twitter! I'm pleased because everyone involved, particularly the producers, took a huge risk. This is not an old fashioned revival, it's new and fresh and has substance and reflects the real world. And they encouraged so much new talent - for so many involved this is their broadway debuts. So it has really been such a lovely and meaningful experience. I'm a couple days late on a deadline for another musical I'm working on so I'm going to unplug and spend the day writing - that's the sanest thing I can do right now.

John O'Farrell, Best Book of a Musical for Something Rotten!
We are very excited here to get 10 nominations it is very gratifying and a great credit to the Broadway community. We're delighted were getting support form the audiences and from BWW as well so thank you for that and we are stunned that our debut venture into theater has earned us 10 nominations. As a Brit, an outsider, to see the American response has been wonderful, the high level of enthusiasm. We watched it live, my wife and I through Tony web site and it was very exciting. I was most excited with Best Musical and best score and really excited for Casey for direction and great choreography - so delighted. I'm going to record the cast album today and we may raise a glass of orange juice in a plastic glass to toast our success.

Ruth Wilson, Best Actress in a Play for CONSTELLATIONS
"I couldn't have had a more special experience for my first time on Broadway. This recognition today is for Jake, Michael Longhurst and Nick Payne. To have the privilege to work in New York in this community is truly an honor."

Bill Nighy, Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play for Skylight
"We are honoured by the nominations. It's marvelous to have this show so recognized in New York. It is one of the great plays of our times and I am delighted for everyone"

Brandon Uranowitz, Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical, An American in Paris
I haven't had a real day off in a few weeks because it's been so crazy with opening night and cast recording and everything. So, I decided to relax yesterday at my parents' house in New Jersey. I had zero expectation of a nomination today. I just wanted to get my rest, so I slept in and was gonna get up later to look at the nominations. I mean, I was pretty confidant that the show would get recognized and that Robbie and Leanne and Max would too, but I was happy to find out later. My parents just barged into my room screaming and crying. My boyfriend thought one of the dogs had died. I though my dad was having a heart attack. My best friend called my mom and told them- that's how they found out. I think it was exactly how it was supposed to happen. My plan was to relax, so I have no idea what to do now. I'd love to do some day drinking but I have a show tonight!

Ruthie Ann Miles, The King and I Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical
"My agent called me to celebrate in my ear, and then my phone exploded. Bart called me shortly afterwards and I asked him for some notes (I still have a bunch of questions about character work.) I'm so happy. I'm just so happy with the rest of Team King & Anna. Doing this show, with this company, has been an absolute dream come true."

Richard McCabe Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Play for The Audience
Well because the nominations are so early in the morning and I'm a theater person, I was fast asleep. But, I got a call from my partner who is over in England and he was screaming hysterically at me that I got a nomination, so it was a nice way to be woken up. It's very exciting and it's really nice that this curiously British play has been so well received here in America and I'm happy for dear [British Prime Minister] Harold Wilson who most Americans have never even heard of! You know somebody said years ago, that with the British, generally speaking, you sort of have to work for years and years to get noticed, whereas Americans are far more immediate - if they like you they will accept you immediately, which is great. So to receive a nomination for my Broadway debut is thrilling, absolutely thrilling. Today will be an ordinary working day but I might just raise a glass with Helen later on tonight. But really to me, just to be nominated is the real honor.

Finn Ross Best Scenic Design of a Play, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
"It's becoming so surreal and really quite wonderful! It's quite weird actually- I just arrived for a new project and I was in the middle of carrying a bunch of cases and my phone went nuts. Then I saw the news on Twitter and had to look for them online for further proof! Lucky my friend is nearby so I think we will celebrate at dinner tonight!"

Matthew Beard, Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Play, Skylight
"Waking up to a Tony nomination is a very special feeling. Skylight has been my first ever play, as well as my first ever West End and Broadway show and now it's brought me my first ever Tony nomination. I'm beyond grateful to everyone involved with the production and particularly Stephen Daldry for giving me this opportunity. There are some hugely talented people on the list and it's a real honour to share a room with them."
Beth Malone, Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical for Fun Home
Wow wow wow!!! Ok what!? This is something that can happen to a person?? Like, never in my wildest... I went to the Violet Tony party last year and as I watched Sutton handle the evening never not once even for a millisecond did it cross my mind, oh that could be me next year. And, here we are. And now I'm gonna say something audacious... This nom is EVERYTHING. Now I get to be among these 4 amazing women for a little over a month. Be counted among them... I'm good. And thank you. And then I stripped my bed and started laundry and took the dogs to the dog park.

Wayne Kirkpatrick, Best Original Score (Music and/or Lyrics) Written for the Theatre Something Rotten!
"I am thrilled and so honored to be nominated along with such an incredible group of composers and lyricists. It is beyond my wildest expectations and I am so grateful."

Bunny Christie, Best Scenic Design of a Play, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
This is really fantastic! I was actually doing a radio interview with Simon Stephens and he told me the news! I didn't have my phone on, but he congratulated me and then we got a celebratory cup of tea. It's been such a lovely show to do. It's been the best experience and going to Broadway... this is the first thing I've done here. It's been so thrilling. The actors are fantastic, but more than that, the teams that I work with, the crew, builders, painters are so warm and welcoming and professional and on it. It's been fantastic. Broadway is like playing tennis at Wimbledon! It's the icing on the cake. To have so many of us nominated together is great because we are a team. It's a team effort. We loved having the time together. And I'm really excited for Alex [Sharp]- it's so cool for him and so well deserved!

Simon Stevens, Tony nominee for Best Play, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
It means the world to be nominated for a Tony Award for Best Play. It is especially exciting because there were so many nominations for the artistic team and company. I have never before worked on a piece of theatre that has felt more collaborative in its creation. It's massively exciting that this collaboration has been acknowledged. New York has been a city that has lived in my imagination for as long as I can remember.

As a four-year-old boy I learned to read by reading Spider Man Comics. So many of the plays I loved were set in this city. So many of the films and the novels. It is a city of extraordinary stories.

To take our story of a teenage boy and his boiler engineer father to Broadway and have it received with such warmth and enthusiasm is thrilling.

It is a great season of theatre on Broadway and it means a lot to be part of this season. And the other nominees for Best Play are writers I have massive, massive respect for. I am flattered and touched to be sharing a list with them.

Marianne Elliott, Tony nominee for Direction of a Play, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
It's a fantasy for all of us who work in theatre to go to Broadway, and all of us on Curious Incident felt very lucky indeed. It's incredible to be considered amongst such remarkable productions. Credit should go to the creative team, who have worked tirelessly and collaboratively, and also to the American cast, who have given blood, sweat and tears in pursuit of portraying the story of this extraordinary young boy.

Alex Sharp, Tony nominee for Best Actor in a Leading Role in a Play, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
Such an honor and such a beautiful surprise!! One year ago I hadn't graduated drama school yet, so this is truly unbelievable. Such things seem so impossible! I'm so thrilled for the other people from Curious also nominated. This is such a team effort and a beautiful story that we are all bringing to life together.

Scott Graham of Frantic Assembly, Tony nominee for Choreography (co-nominee with Steven Hoggett), The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
I'm absolutely thrilled to be nominated and to be part of this wonderful creative team. Our American cast is just extraordinary.

Paule Constable, Tony nominee for Lighting Design of a Play:
Sitting outside Glyndebourne Opera in the sunshine in rural Sussex - a million miles from Broadway - feeling so proud to be part of the amazing New York theatre community. Making theatre in New York is unlike anywhere in the world. The actors, the technicians, the designers - they achieve a level of excellence like nowhere else. To feel part of that family feels such a privilege. To have my work acknowledged in this way - it's incredible. I am quite simply overwhelmed!

Ayad Akhtar, Best Play, Disgraced
I was in the shower this morning when I received several text messages that I had been nominated. I kind of knew the nominations were happening this morning but I've been doing my best to not think about that stuff and was doing pretty well actually. But it really is thrilling

It's just such a special experience - I feel like the show has been embraced by the Broadway community, like this play has found a proverbial home on Broadway and I think that says something quite wonderful about where we are. I'm very grateful and humbled.

This morning I went over to the offices of my producers, who I am now good friends with and we had a toast with water. And I had a nice call with my mom, who was eagerly listening to the nominations in Milwaukee. So now I'm just going to go about my day and keep on my own schedule, keep doing my writing but also enjoy the celebratory events ahead.

David Rockwell, Best Scenic Design of a Play/Musical, You Can't Take It With You/On the Twentieth Century

Two years ago when I was nominated for Kinky Boots and Lucky Guy, I was at the gym when I got the news. This morning had to drop my kids off and then I decided to go back to the same gym. It's so thrilling because for me so much about loving New York as a young person was related to theatre. I saw Fiddler, designed by Boris Aronson back then. I think this is such an incredible community to be a part of. This is such an honor. I didn't even work out today! I walked around two times. I need to renew my membership! I went home right away to tell my wife and email my kids. Then I called Scott Ellis right away- he directed both of these shows. I think I'll have a glass of wine tonight to celebrate!

Steven Boyer, Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play for Hand to God
"I pretty much couldn't sleep last night... at all. So I was up pretty early watching Bruce Willis talk about the Tonys. They thankfully got my category out of the way very early, so I was put out of my misery. My wife screamed and hugged me. Now I'm just trying to dig myself out from the unending pile of emails and text messages. Just when I think I get to the top I get more! It's just great. I'm so happy that our playwright, our director, Geneva Carr, Sarah Stiles all got nominations too! I don't even know what will happen when we all see each other tonight. There will be lots of tears, hugs, proclamation of love. Just a regular Tuesday!"

Christopher Wheeldon, Best Choreography/Best Direction of a Musical for An American in Paris
"I was watching it on the TV. I don't normally watch TV in the early morning, but this morning was obviously different! Then I did a happy dance. It's so unexpected and I'm so excited. This is all so new to me! This whole experience has been a dream- just starting out with Paris, fixing things, and the previews, and then opening here.... this is the cherry on top of the sundae though. I actually spent the day mixing the cast recording. A soon as I heard the news, that's where I went. It's going to sound great!"

Sarah Stiles, Best Performance by an Actress in a Play for Hand to God
"I didn't want to watch because the whole thing gave me bubble guts. I was just sitting on the couch with the TV off with my roommate. One of my best friends called me and I wasn't sure if I should pick up. My manager said he was gonna call me and I was NOT to pick up until he did. Then my roommate told me it was OK to pick up. And so I did and a huge smile spread across his face. I just sobbed. I had no idea it would be like this! It's crazy to have your dream come true. I'm on a cloud today. I have dreamt about this since I was a little girl! I went on a really, really long run. I left my phone and ran to the water in Long Island City and just layed in the sun and then ran back home. It was wonderful because it cleared my head and I got some vitamin D! Tonight will be so special- that puppet sex is gonna be extra bangin'!"
