NoHo ACE to Premiere SCARY MUSICAL THE MUSICAL, 9/12-11/9

Lexikat Artists and MB Artists in association with the multi-award-winning NoHo Arts Center Ensemble (NoHo ACE) are thrilled to present a world premiere musical, SCARY MUSICAL The Musical, book by Richard Hochberg, music and lyrics by Richard Hochberg and Michael Paternostro, musical direction by Brent Crayon, orchestrations by Kenny Seymour and directed and choreographed by James J. Mellon. SCARY MUSICAL The Musical will begin previews on Friday, September 12 at 8pm; will open on Friday, September 19 at 8pm and run for eight weeks through Sunday, November 9, 2014 at the NoHo Arts Center, 11136 Magnolia Blvd. (at Lankershim) in North Hollywood. The Old Globe presents the third production of the 2014 Summer Season, Ronald Harwood's comedy QUARTET, directed by Richard Seer (Other Desert Cities, God of Carnage, The Last Romance). Harwood received an Academy Award for his screenplay of The Pianist and was nominated for The Diving Bell and the Butterfly and The Dresser (also a hit on Broadway and the West End). QUARTET will play in the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center, now through August 24, 2014. BroadwayWorld has a first look at the cast in action below! Fiasco Theater's INTO THE WOODS Extends Through August at The Old Globe

The Old Globe today announced additional performances for the second production of the 2014 Summer Season, Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Tony Award-winning musical Into the Woods, which made its World Premiere at The Old Globe in 1986. The production is an inventive reimagining by Fiasco Theater, directed by Noah Brody and Ben Steinfeld, in a production that originated at McCarter Theatre Center. By popular demand, it will now play through Sunday, August 17. Tickets for the extension will go on sale to the general public on Tuesday, July 29 at noon. (more...)

Theatrical licensor Music Theatre International (MTI) has secured licensing rights to Broadway's newest Tony Award-winning BEST MUSICAL, A GENTLEMAN'S GUIDE TO LOVE AND MURDER. GENTLEMAN'S GUIDE was the most-nominated show of the season, with 10 nominations and the winningest new show, taking home 4 Tonys (BEST MUSICAL, BOOK, DIRECTION, COSTUMES). Casting and Cameo Groups Announced for Free Public Works' Musical Adaptation of THE WINTER'S TALE

Following last year's acclaimed Public Works production of The Tempest, The Public Theater will continue this community-based initiative this September with a free original musical adaptation of Shakespeare's THE WINTER'S TALE. Featuring more than 200 New Yorkers from all five boroughs performing alongside professional actors and The Public's community partners, Public Works' THE WINTER'S TALE will run for three nights only, September 5-7, at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. Arena Stage Selects John Strand as Resident Playwright

Artistic Director Molly Smith announces D.C.-area based playwright John Strand will join Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater for a yearlong playwright residency as part of the American Voices New Play Institute, effective this month through June 2015. Through the residency Strand will receive a salary; health benefits; a budget to be used at his discretion to cover collaborator fees, workshop costs and research expenses to support his new play development process; and a commitment from Arena Stage to produce a new work in a future season and to continue cultivating an ongoing, long-term relationship. MOTHER JONES AND THE CHILDREN'S CRUSADE - presented by The New York Musical Theatre Festival, Crystal Theatre and Benjamin Simpson - has announced a second extension to its run with an additional performance on Friday, July 25 at 5:00 PM. The dramatic new musical inspired by the true story of the trailblazing labor organizer, which already has a sold out performance, will run from July 17 to 26, 2014. The show has book, music and lyrics by Cheryl E. Kemeny (co-founder of Crystal Theatre) and stars Lynne Wintersteller (A Grand Night For Singing and Annie on Broadway) and Robin De Jesus (two time Tony Award nominee).
