Houston Ballet is pleased to announce that Andrew Nielsen will join its artistic leadership team as Director of Production. Mr. Nielsen will oversee all technical and production management duties for Houston Ballet locally and internationally.

Jessica Lang Dance, under the artistic direction of choreographer Jessica Lang, will celebrate its 5th Anniversary season with a week-long engagement at The Joyce Theater on June 14 – 19, 2016, featuring five pieces, including three New York premieres. There will be a post-performance Curtain Chat discussion with Lang and dancers from the company following the performance on June 15.

Alison Cook Beatty Dance will be performing May 1st at New York Live Arts at 5pm and 7:30pm in part of PMT Spring Dance Series - 15th Anniversary Showcase. Company member Chie Mukai and Artistic Director Alison Cook-Beatty will be performing TINTINNABULI choreographed in 2012 and first premiered at The Joyce Theater.

Ballet Preljocaj, under the direction of Angelin Preljocaj, opened its New York premiere engagement of Empty Moves (Parts I, II, & III), to Empty Words, by John Cage, on April 20, 2016, when I had the opportunity to attend. Preljocaj has created 45 choreographic works for his company, formed in December 1984, ranging from solo to larger formations. His productions (49, to date) are now part of the repertoire of many companies, many of which also commission original productions, notably La Scala of Milan, New York City Ballet, and the Paris Opera. I was excited to see the work of this acclaimed contemporary choreographer, aware that his dancers are known to be very good.

The Joyce Theater Foundation presented the long-awaited Lincoln Center debut of the internationally lauded Miami City Ballet under the artistic direction of former New York City Ballet principal dancer Lourdes Lopez, from April 13-17 at the David H. The Joyce Theater Foundation, Inc., moves beyond its historic Chelsea home to present groundbreaking performances in intimate spaces through Joyce Unleashed, a series of experimental work presented off-site. One of Finland's most talented young choreographers, Elina Pirinen will make her U.S. debut with her award-winning trio, Personal Symphonic Moment, performed at New York Live Arts (May 31-June 1). Brooklyn-based artist Anna Sperber's latest creation, Prize, will also be performed at New York Live Arts (June 3 & 4). Performance-based artist Vanessa Anspaugh will present The End of Men; An Ode to Ocean at Abrons Arts Center (June 8-11). Both Pirinen and Anspaugh are making their Joyce debut.

Many of New York City and the country's most renowned dancers and dance companies performed on Monday, April 18 at 7:30pmat The Joyce Theater (175 8th Avenue), where the NYC Dance Alliance Foundation presented DESTINY RISING, an evening of dance artistry to benefit the NYC Dance Alliance Foundation College Scholarship Program (which to date has awarded over $17 million in college scholarships to over 300 dancers all over the country). WOMEN ON THE EDGE, set for Today April 21st, from 7 to 10 p.m. at Bene Rialto, 13 West 38th street, NYC, is a reception celebrating three groundbreaking artists collaborating to bring attention to the importance of creativity, originality and innovation.

American Ballet Theatre (ABT) Studio Company opened their three-day performance schedule on the evening of April 15, 2016, at The Joyce Theater. The troupe offered a  program of five balletic acts that included one world premiere and two New York City premieres. With a full house, numerous supporters of the ABT attended. I recognized a few corps de ballet members of the company, principal dancer of ABT Gillian Murphy, and the extraordinary ballerina Alessandra Ferri in the audience. It was a lovely gesture for them and for many other guests to see the upcoming dancers who could someday be part of the ABT main company.

On a beautiful New York Sunday afternoon, April 17, 2016, American Ballet Theatre (ABT) Studio Company performed on their final day at The Joyce Theater. I was curious to watch these young dancers in Program C-a different repertoire. The line up consisted of La Bayadere Pas d'Action, Bier Halle, Libera!, Third Wheels, and Bolero. As I waited in wonderment of the coming piece, I too wondered if the ABT Studio dancers were anxious to knock the audience and myself out of my aisle seat with their talents. Tragically, I wound up holding the armrests from the anxiety created onstage.

KIDS DANCE is back! Ballet Tech's remarkably poised, scrupulously schooled and impeccably rehearsed whiz-kid dancers are busting at the seams to dance for you.  Eliot Feld's A Yankee Doodle comes to town, with a feather in its cap.Dotty Polkas bounces off the walls and across the stage, and both Quickstep and UPSIDE D?N?E return to the repertory, June 9-12 at the Joyce Theater.

CHICAGO – Hubbard Street Dance Chicago and Artistic Director Glenn Edgerton are excited to announce the main company's 2016–17 season performances in Chicago. Tickets to four engagements at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance in Millennium Park, located at 205 East Randolph Street in Chicago, are available immediately as a Season 39 subscription; single tickets will go on sale in late summer 2016.

The American Ballet Theatre Studio Company will present three performances at the Joyce Theater, this weekend, beginning tonight, April 15 and continuing through April 17, 2016. Performance times are 8:00 PM tonight and Saturday, April 16, and 2:00 PM on Sunday, April 17.

Last week, Ballet Hispanico continued its 45th anniversary tour with their spring New York season at The Joyce Theater, April 5-10, 2016. This time around, the company chose to honor the past by bringing back some old favorites from their repertoire.
