AMERICAN PSYCHO, which began previews on March 24th, just celebrated its Opening Night on Broadway last night, April 21, 2016, at the Gerald SchoenfeldTheatre (236 West 45th Street). The American premiere of a new musical based on the iconic novel by Bret Easton Ellis, which recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of its publication, stars Benjamin Walker (Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson) as Patrick Bateman. The Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company presents Romeo and Juliet, the fifth production in the inaugural Plays at the Garrick season. The production reunites the stars of Branagh's Cinderella,Lily James (Juliet) and Richard Madden. Romeo and Juliet will play at the Garrick Theatre from 12 May until 13 August with press night on 25 May. The production will be broadcast live to cinemas on 7 July. As previously reported, 3-time Tony Award nominee Marin Mazzie and Daniel Dae Kim will soon join the Tony Award-winning production of Rodgers & Hammerstein's The King and I beginning Tuesday, May 3 at the Vivian Beaumont Theater. In anticipation, BroadwayWorld caught up with the pair in the rehearsal room just yesterday. Check out complete photo coverage here!

Lyric Opera of Chicago released new behind-the-scenes rehearsal images from its grand-scale production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's THE KING AND I, featuring Broadway starsKate Baldwin and Paolo Montalban as Anna Leonowens and the King of Siam. The production runs April 29 through May 22 (press opening April 30) at the Civic Opera House, 20 N. Wacker Drive, Chicago. BroadwayWorld has a sneak peek at the company in rehearsal here!

FUN HOME, the groundbreaking, Tony Award-winning Best Musical, celebrated its first anniversary on Broadway on April 19, where it has played 415 performances (and counting) at the Circle in the Square Theatre (235 West 50th St). Broadway's WAITRESS began performances on Friday, March 25 with a bang, setting a house record for a single performance the Brooks Atkinson Theatre and announcing a new block of tickets on sale through January 1, 2017. Many of New York City and the country's most renowned dancers and dance companies performed on Monday, April 18 at 7:30pm at The Joyce Theater (175 8th Avenue), where the NYC Dance Alliance Foundation presented DESTINY RISING, an evening of dance artistry to benefit the NYC Dance Alliance Foundation College Scholarship Program (which to date has awarded over $17 million in college scholarships to over 300 dancers all over the country). Anything Goes. Oklahoma. Follies. La Cage Aux Folles. Those four musicals, plus many others, all got their start at Boston's important Colonial Theatre. Now, as the Colonial is in danger of shutting it doors, Feinstein's/54 Below celebrated the famed venue with an evening of songs and stories and BroadwayWorld was there. Click here for more photos!

The SheriDan Smith-starring revival of FUNNY GIRL opened at the Savoy Theatre in the West End. The transfer follows a sold-out run at the Menier Chocolate Factory, and the show is booking until October 8. Smith takes on Barbra Streisand's iconic role of Fanny Brice, the Brooklyn singer and comedienne who became a Broadway sensation under producer Florenz Ziegfeld. The cast also features Darius Campbell as Nicky Arnstein, Marilyn Cutts as Mrs Brice,Maurice Lane as Mr Keeney, Valda Aviks as Mrs Meeker, Gay Soper as Mrs Strakosh, Natasha J Barnes as Emma/Mrs Nadler, Bruce Montague as Florenz Ziegfeld, and Joel Montague as Eddie Ryan. The Queen's Company, New York City's acclaimed (and first) all-female classical theater company, now in its 15th season, presents William Shakespeare's TAMING OF THE SHREW, directed by The Queen's Company Artistic Director Rebecca Patterson. TAMING OF THE SHREW runs now through May 1, 2016 in a limited engagement at the Wild Project, and BroadwayWorld has a first look at the cast in action here!
