Photo Flash: Houston Ballet Ends 2015-16 Season With World Premiere of Stanton Welch's GISELLE

From June 9 - 19, 2016, Houston Ballet will conclude its 2015-16 season with the world premiere of artistic director Stanton Welch's Giselle. The world premiere of Giselle is made possible through the generosity of longtime Houston Ballet supporter and trustee Lynn Wyatt. This production will showcase the company's strength and depth of talent, while staying true to the original story of love, betrayal, and redemption, set in the Romantic era. The ballet is set to the famous score by Adolphe Adam and designed by renowned Italian designer Roberta Guidi di Bagno, who will create the scenery and costumes for the production.

Hudson River Park, one of the nation's longest waterfront parks and an urban oasis for New Yorkers and visitors from every corner of the world, will be the stunning natural setting for the second annual Hudson River Dance Festival, presented at Pier 63 in Hudson River Park. This free celebration of NYC's premier dance culture is a rare and unique opportunity for diverse audiences to experience some of the most talented and acclaimed dancers and ground-breaking dance compositions and performances in the world. The Festival takes place on Wednesday, June 15th, and Thursday, June 16th at 6:30 p.m.  The same program will be featured each evening.

Four acclaimed female choreographers, Elisa Monte, Molissa Fenley, Margo Sappington, and Jennifer Muller join forces this spring in Monte/Molissa/Margo/Muller - LIVE! at New York Live Arts, June 14 through June 18. The five-night program of shared performances will feature five works each evening, with three premieres and a cast of 25 dancers.

In honor of the 400th Anniversary of William Shakespeare's death, Jessica Lang Dance will present the NY premiere of Sweet Silent Thought, inspired by five of the Master's sonnets.  The work  features readings of Sonnets 30, 40, 64, 71 and 105, by actors Chris Myers (Obie Award, Octoroon),  Chukwudi Iwuji (Shakespeare Festival's King Lear) and Nilanjana Bose-Ciupinska,  as part of the company's week-long season at The Joyce, running June 14 – 19, 2016.

American Dance Institute to Perform at The Kitchen This Summer

American Dance Institute (ADI), continuing to find new ways to support contemporary dance artists, will present performances in New York City for the first time this summer, offering five premieres over the course of five weeks at The Kitchen, June 2 - July 2. The third of ADI's New York premieres at The Kitchen will be celebrated choreographer Jane Comfort's You Are Here, June 16-18.

BalletCollective's 2016 Season will further explore the company's unique collaborative process with world premiere works featuring two collaborations pairing architects Carlos Arnaiz and James Ramsey with composers Judd Greenstein and Ellis Ludwig-Leone respectively. Both works will be choreographed by BalletCollective director Troy Schumacher and will be premiered at NYU Skirball Center on October 27 and 28 featuring live music and an ensemble of eight dancers, including New York City Ballet's Harrison Coll, Rachel Hutsell Anthony Huxley, Lauren King, Isabella LaFreniere, Ashley Laracey, and Lauren Lovette.

Buglisi Dance Theatre, celebrating its 23rd anniversary, is proud to present 'Women of Distinction,' a program that celebrates women, June 7-9 at The Ailey Citigroup Theater. The season will see a World Premiere by Buglisi, inspired by the first recorded author/poet, as well as Buglisi masterworksRequiem, Sand, Sospiri, Suite:Solos and Duets, and a special performance by Christine Dakin with pianist Brian Zeger. The Opening Night performance will honor Terese Capucilli, Associate Founding Director and Principal Dancer of Buglisi Dance Theatre, and will include a performance by Graham principal dancer Blakeley White-McGuire of Martha Graham's Deep Song (opening night only).

BWW Dance Review: A Conversation on Mixing Ballet and Tap at THE CENTER FOR BALLET AND THE ARTS

On May 9th 2016, the Center for Ballet and the Arts at New York University curated an interesting presentation entitled: Ballet and Tap Dancing: Oil and Water? The History of Attempts to Mix Ballet and Tap as part of their public conversations series. This one featured acclaimed author, dance critic, and writer Brian Seibert. Mr. Seibert led this talk with aims of giving the audience an overview of the various attempts to fuse the two dance forms.

Jacqulyn Buglisi Stages TABLE OF SILENCE at University of California Santa Barbara on 5/23

Jacqulyn Buglisi is honored to stage her 'Table of Silence' on 75 dance majors at the University of California, Santa Barbara, May 23 from 12 noon to 1 PM on the second anniversary of the Isla Vista tragedy, in which six UCSB students were killed.  The commemoration will be an opportunity for the campus community to join together to honor the students lost, in a message of hope, peace and healing. Choreographer Buglisi and UCSB express their deep appreciation to John Arnhold, an alumnus of UCSB and major supporter of the arts, for making this moving event possible.  UCSB musicians will accompany the dancers; the mantels and ceramic plates used in 'Table of Silence', performed annually at New York's Lincoln Center since 2011, will be provided by the New York City-based Buglisi Dance Theatre. The commemoration will be streamed live at www.live.id.ucsb.edu
