For more than fifty years, works by José Limón have been performed by companies around the world, including the Royal Danish Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Paris Opera Ballet, Bayerisches Staatsballet, and more. Now, approaching the Company's 70th Anniversary, the José Limón Dance Foundation will bring to New York professional companies and important schools from abroad and the U.S. for a Grand Celebration of the works of the legendary choreographer, for two weeks, October 13 - 25, 2015 at the Joyce Theater. I suppose I had to be back on American soil to finally catch up with the Polish National Ballet, now playing at the Joyce Theater, offering two works by Pastor and one by Israeli choreographer Emanuel Gat. Centenary Stage Company continues its tradition of nurturing artists by offering the Summer Dance Intensive with the professional Nimbus Dance works. This four day summer intensive, open to the public, runs from July 6 to 9 on the campus of Centenary College in Hackettstown, NJ. Intended for ages 14 and up, workshops will include contemporary technique and creative work/performance presentations. Students will learn professional choreography and develop a new dance working on Nimbus Dance Works' Surface Tension company piece. (more...)

Highlights of Festival 2015 include Three Acts, Two Dancers, One Radio Host, a special dance and radio stage production starring Ira Glass, host of This American Life; the return of Nederlands Dans Theater 2; the world premiere of American Ballet Theatre principal dancer Daniil Simkin's INTENSIO; Cuban contemporary ensemble Malpaso Dance Company, performing with GRAMMY Award-winning pianist and composer Arturo O'Farrill and the Afro Latin Jazz Ensemble; and the launch of Martha Graham Dance Company's 90th Anniversary, including a world premiere by eminent choreographer Mats Ek.  (more...)

The Joyce Theater Foundation, Inc. is thrilled to present the New York debut of the Polish National Ballet, Poland's leading ballet company based in Warsaw, from June 16-21. The complete cast and creative team have been announced for The Old Globe production of William Shakespeare's delightful and romantic Twelfth Night. Rebecca Taichman, whose production of the time-traveling Time and the Conways fascinated audiences last April, is back to direct the first show of the 2015 Summer Shakespeare Festival. The Old Globe engagement will begin performances on June 21 and run through July 26, 2015, with opening night on Saturday, June 27 at 8:00 p.m., in the Lowell Davies Festival Theatre. (more...)

This is a contemporary ballet company in the style of European contemporary companies. Under the artistic direction of Glenn Edgerton -- a former beloved dancer with the Joffrey Ballet for 11 years and then with the acclaimed Nederlands Dance Theater for five years, after which he became Artistic Director, leading NDT I for a decade -- this company shines. What a pleasure it is to see this level of energy and movement quality in a contemporary company, as I did on opening night, Tuesday May 12th, at the Joyce Theater. (more...)
