IFC Center today announced an impressive and wide-ranging lineup for the third annual Split Screens Festival (www.splitscreensfestival.com) taking place Wednesday, May 29 through Monday, June 3, 2019, at the IFC Center in New York City. The festival consists of special events offering a variety of looks at history, identity and the mystery of existence itself, including panels on series that explore dystopian realities and alternate timelines, and screenings that transport us into any number of time periods and places, be it a late-1800s South Dakota town or the height of 1980s ballroom culture in New York City.

Launch Into The Wonders Of Outer Space During Family Musical Mornings Concert

Pacific Symphony will present an exciting "Family Musical Mornings" event with the "Intergalactic Adventures" concert, exploring outer space and beyond through the music of "Star Wars," "Star Trek," "2001: A Space Odyssey" and excerpts from Holst's legendary suite, "The Planets." NASA footage for this concert has been provided by retired NASA astronaut Steven Ray Swanson. This program was created in consultation with Mr. Swanson and is inspired by his real-life explorations to outer space. Conducted by Pacific Symphony's Associate Conductor and Music Director of Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra, Roger Kalia, the concert features the music of the spheres performed by Pacific Symphony and Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra, with performances at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. at the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall on April 13.

This space-themed concert will feature the world premiere of composer Michael Daugherty's "To the New World," a three-movement work celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Moon landing, along with Pohjonen's performance of Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 23, with Strauss' "Also Sprach Zarathustra" ending the evening.

From Wednesday, March 20 through Thursday, March 28, BAM teams up with online magazine Triple Canopy to present BAM and Triple Canopy: On Resentment, a wide-ranging series of daring works that explore cinema as a potent vehicle for expressing and exploring resentment. While recent discourse has frequently centered on feelings of marginalization among working class white men, On Resentment examines resentment as it intersects with issues of class, race, gender, sexuality, and land. A component of Triple Canopy's current issue—which asks pressing questions about the role resentment plays in society and art, and who is afforded the right to resentment—the film series highlights the specific potency of cinema as a vehicle for oppressed voices to air grievances, bring attention to injustice, and effect change.

Low Hum is proud to announce the forthcoming release of Room To Breathe, out June 7th via Last Gang (Chromeo, Rhye, Stars). The debut full-length album from Hawaiian born producer and multi-instrumentalist Collin Desha is the follow up to his eponymous lowhum EP, which won praise and a growing following around the Los Angeles music scene for its captivating mix of psychedelic pop and spaced out rock. With Room To Breathe, which Desha wrote, produced and tracked most of the instruments for, Low Hum further explores a heady mix of late night soundscapes and danceable grooves. Today music fans can stream and watch the video, animated by Bryan Lee, for lead single “Strange Love”, a song inspired by Stanley Kubrick's iconic film “Dr. Strangelove”. Later this month, Low Hum will play The Troubadour in LA on January 26th w/ James Supercave.

The Stratford Festival lost one of its pioneers today. Douglas Rain died of natural causes early this morning at the age of 90 at St. Marys Memorial Hospital, just outside of Stratford, Ontario, the city in which he established his career, becoming one of the world's great classical actors.
