BAFTA Announces 2019 British Academy Britannia Awards Date

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts Los Angeles (BAFTA Los Angeles) is pleased to announce that this year's British Academy Britannia Awards will take place on Friday, October 25, 2019 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

The British Academy Britannia Awards is one of BAFTA's world-renowned annual award ceremonies, and the organization's biggest event outside of the U.K. The ceremony recognizes the work of both outstanding British talent and international colleagues.

For the second year, BritBox will stream the annual British Academy Britannia Awards live to U.S. audiences as part of a multi-year partnership between BAFTA Los Angeles and the subscription service from BBC Studios and ITV.

"At BAFTA, we pride ourselves in a history of championing excellence and inclusion through our elite events, such as the Britannia Awards, as well as our education and talent development programs," said BAFTA Los Angeles Chair of the Board Kathryn Busby. "This year, we look forward to identifying and rewarding extraordinary individuals who continue to redefine the film, games and television industries through their inspirational work. Whether it's in front of or behind the camera, these talented individuals have the ability to play, direct or create characters that resonate with audiences for decades."

"The Britannia Awards make a powerful contribution to the global reach and impact of BAFTA. Our mission has remained the same over the years - to celebrate world-class talent we find deserving of recognition for their commitment to their craft," said BAFTA LA CEO, Chantal Rickards. "We are thrilled to continue our partnership with BritBox and bring THE BRITANNIA AWARDS to an audience with a keen appetite for British content across North America."

"This will be the second year that BritBox is the exclusive broadcast home for BAFTA's Britannia awards in the U.S. and Canada," said Soumya Sriraman, President of BritBox. "BritBox has been bringing the best of U.K. content to our subscribers, so it only makes sense that we stream THE BRITANNIA AWARDS live in our "Now" feature, as it is truly one of those sought after TV events that our viewers will be excited to have access to."

Known to be an enjoyable evening that captures a unique blend of sincerity and British irreverence, the evening also serves to celebrate the long-standing collaboration between the British and American industries. Proceeds from the event support BAFTA's Access for All campaign, a range of impactful educational initiatives created to provide a foot-in-the-door and a pathway to success for talented individuals, uninhibited by background, demographics or personal circumstance.

The 2018 ceremony, presented by Jaguar Land Rover and American Airlines, took place on Friday, October 26 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel and was hosted by British actor and comedian Jack Whitehall. Jim Carrey was honored with the Charlie Chaplin Britannia Award for Excellence in Comedy Presented by Jaguar Land Rover, Emilia Clarke was honored with the Britannia Award for British Artist of the Year, Steve McQueen was honored with the John Schlesinger Britannia Award for Excellence in Directing, Cate Blanchett was honored with the Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Film Presented by Cunard, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige was honored with the Albert R. Broccoli Britannia Award for Worldwide Contribution to Entertainment, and Damian Lewis was honored with the Britannia Award for Excellence in Television.
