BWW Review: Charming but Flawed FINDING NEVERLAND Searches for MagicBWW Review: Charming but Flawed FINDING NEVERLAND Searches for Magic
by Michael L. Quintos - Mar 27, 2017

A charming though perplexing adaptation of the 2004 film, FINDING NEVERLAND jets into too many erratic directions at any given moment and doesn't gel completely as a whole. And for all its gorgeous, visual splendor, it is surprisingly lacking in honest-to-goodness stage magic. The touring version of the 2015 Broadway stage musical adaptation continues at OC's Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa through April 2, 2017. (more...)

It's always a comfort knowing that alumni from your Musical Theatre program are working and doing great things in the entertainment industry. Jake Emmerling is doing just that, currently spreading the good word across the country in The Book of Mormon national tour as a member of the ensemble. After returning to his alma mater for an afternoon to teach a choreography masterclass, I was lucky enough to sit down with the performer and hear about his experience being on tour with such a big Broadway hit. BWW Review: Magical FINDING NEVERLAND at the PantagesBWW Review: Magical FINDING NEVERLAND at the Pantages
by Don Grigware - Feb 23, 2017

To say that the musical version of Finding Neverland is a real charmer is an understatement. The book by James Graham retains all of the sweetness of the 2004 film and adds on a delightful theatricality for the stage that just will not quit. One surprising element is the musical score by Gary Barlow and Eliot Kennedy that includes some wonderfully poignant and moving ballads. With sweeping direction by Diane Paulus and a dynamite cast this national touring production is bound to please just about everyone, the young and the young at heart. It plays at the Hollywood Pantages through March 12. (more...)

BWW Review: Brilliantly Funny SOMETHING ROTTEN! at The Fox TheatreBWW Review: Brilliantly Funny SOMETHING ROTTEN! at The Fox Theatre
by Chris Gibson - Feb 11, 2017

I know that some critics will probably refer to Monty Python's Flying Circus or the work of Mel Brooks when they try to explain the appeal of SOMETHING ROTTEN!. There are some similarities to both, but the fact is, this show (book by Karey Kirkpatrick and John O'Farrell with Music and Lyrics by Wayne and Karey Kirkpatrick) is actually something uniquely original. Sure a lot of contemporary musicals have taken the opportunity to crack wise while parodying musical theatre tropes before, but never as thoroughly and hilariously. The current touring show at The Fox Theatre is just great fun, and I highly recommend that you attend! (more...)
