The View UpStairs - the provocative new musical written by Max Vernon, directed by Scott Ebersold and choreographed by Al Blackstone - just released its Original Cast Album, now available to purchase.

The Broadway at Birdland concert series presented the 14th episode of 'Show Biz After Hours with Frank DiLella' on Monday, August 21. Frank's Very Special Guests were Beth Leavel (currently starring in Bandstand), Chad Kimball (currently starring in Come From Away) and Judith Light (currently starring on television in 'Transparent.') The 2017 Children's Musical Theater Festival took place July 15-16 in New York City at The Baruch Performing Arts Center. The 7th Annual festival was presented by Broadway Workshop and Project Broadway. The 2017 festival productions included a new version of the Queen Musical - We Will Rock You, part of the catalog at Theatrical Rights Worldwide and a brand new musical Giants in the Sky part of Beat By Beat Press licensing. The View UpStairs - the provocative new musical written by Max Vernon, directed by Scott Ebersold and choreographed by Al Blackstone - will partner with Coming Out, a non-profit open-source platform for sharing diverse stories about coming out, for a special event after the performance on Thursday, April 27. Engage with peers, cast and creative members of The View UpStairs, and the Coming Out team as we celebrate the LGBTQ community's vibrant and diverse voices.

The Broadway at Birdland concert series was proud to present NY1 theater journalist Frank DiLella, who returned to the Birdland stage with the twelfth episode of his talk show, "Show Biz After Hours With Frank DiLella.'

The Random Farms Kids' Theater, based in Westchester, NY, will host a benefit concert entitled Random Broadway on Monday, April 3 at 7pm, featuring performers from the Broadway community and beyond.

Birdland will kick-off their great week of programming with the following acts:

THE VIEW UPSTAIRS is a production of the Culture Project, which bills itself as 'New York's home for socially conscious theater.' Seen in that context, the play is not without value. Just don't expect nuance. And at one hour forty-five minutes and no intermission, it's a tough slog. Out of sixteen musical numbers, only a handful are musically compelling. And given the current political climate, it's worth reminding a younger generation what it was like just 40 years ago. Few in this crowd believed Trump would become '45,' or that basic human rights-from freedom of the press to gay marriage-would be in jeopardy. Moreover, before the Pulse Orlando shooting, the fire at the UpStairs Lounge was the deadliest hate crime against gays and lesbians in American history, yet remains unknown outside New Orleans except to activists or students of queer history. Though uneven and often heavy-handed, THE VIEW UPSTAIRS has some nice moments. Given the important subject matter, one just wishes it worked better as a piece of art.
