BWW Interviews: Carson Kressley Talks 'Runway,' 'CHAPERONE' and More

Most people will remember Carson Kressley from television's 'Queer Eye For The Straight Guy'. He was the more outrageous of the so-called Fab Five and was the show's fashion guru. Talking to him on the phone proved that he's not exactly like that. At least not nowadays. He proved to be genial, intelligent and much more of a sweetheart than anyone would expect from his television image. He was eager to chat about his background, his stage acting and his participation in 'Broadway Takes The Runway' which takes place on October 4th.

Last night, September 23, the stars of Memphis were honored with a Wall of Fame painting at Tony di Napoli's restaurant to kick off the new Broadway season and celebrate the cast's one year anniversary on Broadway. The painting was created by Dan May. Valerie Smaldone produced and emceed the event, which was hosted by Tony di Napoli's Bruce Dimpflmaier.

Ramirez & Kressley Host 'Broadway Takes the Runway' Benefit, 10/4

On Monday, October 4, 2010, Tony Award winning actress and Grey's Anatomy star Sara Ramirez and Emmy award winning television personality and the evening's host Carson Kressley, will be joined by a host of Broadway stars for an intimate evening to celebrate Broadway Takes the Runway - an evening of fashion and song. All proceeds from the night will benefit the Al D. Rodriguez Liver Foundation, which honors the close friend of Ramirez and Kressley, who was lost to liver cancer in 2008.

Mary Tyler Moore and Bernadette Peters will host the 12th annual BROADWAY BARKS!, a star-studded dog and cat adopt-a-thon benefiting New York City animal shelters and adoption agencies. The event, produced by Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS is sponsored by the ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) and Pedigree® Food for Dogs with additional sponsorship by the New York Times. The event will take place on Saturday, July 10th in Shubert Alley (located between 44th and 45th Streets, between Broadway and Eighth Avenue). The festivities begin at 3:30 p.m.; celebrity presentations of pets from citywide animal shelters will take place between 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. (Celebrity participation begins at 5:15 PM).

National High School Musical Theater Awards Announced Winners, 6/28

Two students were presented with JimmyTM Awards for Best Performance by an Actor and Actress on Monday, June 28 at Broadway's Marquis Theatre at the 2nd Annual National High School Musical Theater Awards (NHSMTA), presented by Pittsburgh CLO and Nederlander Alliances LLC. Alexandria Payne of the Tri-Cities High School in Atlanta won for her performance as ‘Ti Moune' in Once on This Island and Kyle Selig of Huntington Beach High School in Long Beach, CA won for his turn as ‘Don Lockwood' in Singin' in the Rain. Each student received $10,000 to further their education and they are eligible for four-year merit and need-based scholarship assistance to attend the NYU Tisch School of the Arts Department of Drama, Undergraduate at New Studio on Broadway: Music theatre and Acting, contingent upon acceptance into the program.

Kathie Lee Gifford hosted and presenters included nine time Tony-winner Tommy Tune, Hunter Ryan Herdlicka of A Little Night Music, and Krysta Rodriguez and Adam Riegler of The Addams Family. Kathie Lee Gifford will host the 2nd Annual National High School Musical Theater Awards (NHSMTA) on Monday, June 28 at the Marquis Theatre (1535 Broadway). The NHSMTA is a national celebration of outstanding student achievement recognizing individual artistry in vocal, dance and acting performance by high school students. Forty-four young performers will compete for the coveted JimmyTM Award for Best Performance by an Actor and Best Performance of an Actress, as well as merit scholarships and professional opportunities.
