NY Daily News Names Glover 'Performer on the Verge of Greatness'

By:

The New York Daily News has distinguished MEMPHIS' Montego Glover as one of the "Five Performers who are on the Verge of Greatness" consisting of "New York up-and-comers who are on the verge of a breakthrough in the performing arts."

In a brief interview with the Daily News, Glover, who hails from Tennessee, reveals that since coming to New York nine years ago to pursue her dreams onstage she has successfully been able to avoid waiting tables and while she'll likely remain a brooklyn resident for a long, long while.

Says Glover: "No waiting tables for me. I knew I would be terrible at that. At least with auditioning, I feel like I know what I'm getting myself into. With waiting tables, you just don't know, so I wanted to protect myself..."

As for being a Brooklyn loyalist she explains: "Times Square is my office, but what I really love about the end of the day is jumping on that train and returning to my Brooklyn neighborhood. I love seeing my sushi bar and my dry cleaner. Brooklyn allows me to own a home, have some space and provides some distance between my work and my personal life, which is important for me to be healthy as an actor."

Montego originated the role of Felicia in MEMPHIS at the La Jolla Playhouse (IRNE Award Nomination, San Diego Theatre Critics Circle Award Nomination) and reprised the role at Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre. Ms. Glover made her Broadway debut in The Color Purple (Celie and Nettie). Other roles include Ragtime (Sarah), Dreamgirls (Lorrell), Aida (Aida, IRNE Award) and Once on This Island (TiMoune, Helen Hayes Award Nomination).
