The Public Theater has announced additional casting today for the 50th Anniversary season of free Shakespeare in the Park at the Delacorte. David Furr (Orlando) and Stephen Spinella (Jaques) join the previously announced MacIntyre Dixon (Adam), Renee Elise Goldsberry (Celia), Omar Metwally (Oliver), and Lily Rabe (Rosalind) in Shakespeare's comedy AS YOU LIKE IT, directed by Daniel Sullivan. Katy Butler, a bullied Michigan high school student who has mobilized more than 425,000 people calling on the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) to drop its "R" rating for the upcoming documentary "Bully," will travel to New York City this week to raise awareness about her campaign and to attend a special film screening of "Bully" hosted by actress Meryl Streep. Loco7 is celebrating their 25th Anniversary season this year. Urban Odyssey, part of La MaMa's 50th Anniversary season, runs Off-Broadway from March 22 - April 8, 2012 in a limited engagement at La MaMa's Ellen Stewart Theatre, located at 66 East 4th Street between 2nd Avenue & the Bowery in New York City. Tonight at The Paley Center for Media legal powerhouses David Boies and Ted Olson spoke out against the MPAA's R rating of the documentary film BULLY, at a special screening. In front of a high-profile audience including cohost Meryl Streep and activist Billie Jean King, Boies stated, 'How ridiculous and unfair and damaging it is to have a film of this power and importance that is being censored by a rating system that has got simply no rational basis. You can kill kids, you can maim them, you can torture them and still get a PG13 rating, but if they say a couple of bad words you blame them. I hope, for heaven's sake, that they find some rational basis before we have to sue them to revise the rating system.' (more...)
