La MaMa ETC’s 61st season will feature world-premieres by John Kelly, Erik Ehn, Elizabeth Swados, Witness Relocation/Dan Safer, Bobbie Jene Smith and Ping Chong, along with the live, in-person stage debut of Split Britches’s 2021 digital production LAST GASP and the first-ever revival of Maria Irene Fornes’ EVELYN BROWN.

La MaMa, the theater Chong considers his artistic home—one of the first organizations to give him a platform following his years presenting performances in New York lofts—will present Lazarus 1972–2022, his new reimagining of the production that set his boundary-shattering career in motion, September 30 - October 16.

This year the highly regarded pianist Ursula Oppens returns to multiple summer music festivals in Europe and the United States. She will be giving recitals, participating as juror, and leading masterclasses.

After moving back to New York from her native Australia in the spring of 2021, Sparke finished writing the album’s 14 songs and decamped upstate with producer Aaron Dessner. Hysteria is packed with big guitars and layered instrumentation that practically acts as the album’s lungs, giving every note breath.

The Obie Award-winning HERE will present the HERE Artist Residency Program production of Cannabis! A Viper Vaudeville. 

Cathy Weis Projects will present two Sundays on Broadway events in May. The evenings will feature new and in-progress works by seven stellar dance artists. La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club and La MaMa Kids will present the world premiere of the new puppet musical Mary Had A Little Lamb And Also A Substitute Teacher as part of its 60th season.

La MaMa has added performances to the La MaMa Moves! Dance Festival. The final week of the festival will now run through Thursday, May 5, with upcoming performances by Compañía Cuerpo de Indias, John Scott Dance, and Valetango Company.

La MaMa, in association with Collapsable Giraffe, will present the world premiere of Object Collection’s Look Out Sh!^head Episode 3, a multidisciplinary performance inspired by Éric Rohmer’s 1980 film cycle Comédies et Proverbes, for two weeks this June.

Chicago's acclaimed Hell in a Handbag Productions makes a long-awaited return to New York with its 20th anniversary production of THE DRAG SEED, an unauthorized parody of the 1956 psychological horror-thriller film The Bad Seed. Written by Artistic Director David Cerda and directed by Cheryl Snodgrass, THE DRAG SEED begins performances March 31 at La MaMa.

The Los Angeles Master Chorale, led by Grant Gershon, Kiki & David Gindler Artistic Director, announced its 2022-23 season during GALA 2022, held on March 23, 2022, at Walt Disney Concert Hall in celebration of Gershon’s 20th anniversary season.

San Diego Opera's 2021 2022 will close with the West Coast Premiere of Aging Magician a hybrid opera/theatre piece that combines singing, choral work, puppetry, and performance art to create an incredibly unique theatrical experience.

Those Women Productions has announced two upcoming projects: a staged reading of The Melting Pot by Carol Lashof on April 9 with original music by Erika Oba, and the full production this summer of the rarely performed “cloak and dagger” comedy House of Desires (Los empeños de una casa) by the 17th century Mexican poet, playwright, and theologian, Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, translated by Catherine Boyle.

Pianist Sarah Cahill, described as “a sterling pianist and an intrepid illuminator of the classical avant-garde” by The New York Times, releases The Future is Female, Vol. 1, In Nature, today, March 4, 2022, on First Hand Records. The Future is Female is a three-volume series, which celebrates and highlights women composers from the 17th century to the present day. These albums encompass 30 compositions by women from around the globe and include many new commissioned works and world premiere recordings.

Gounod's masterpiece of grand French opera, Roméo et Juliette, continues San Diego Opera's 2021-2022 season when it opens on Saturday, March, 26, 2022 for four performances at the San Diego Civic Theatre. Additional performances are March 29, April 1, and 3 (matinee), 2022.
