The NOLA Project to Present MARIE ANTOINETTEThe NOLA Project to Present MARIE ANTOINETTE
by BWW News Desk - Aug 24, 2015

Everyone loves a hot mess. Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton, Honey Boo Boo, Heidi and Spencer Pratt, The Real Housewives of [insert city here]. We watch them out of admiration, out of fascination and - let's be honest - out of a hidden desire to see them fall from grace. The eighteenth-century version of the reality star was Marie Antoinette. Adore her, admonish her, despise her or behead her, the one thing you couldn't do was ignore her. In David Adjmi's hot new play, the queen that everyone has an opinion of is finally given her own voice, and you might be surprised by what comes out. "Marie Antoinette" has played Yale Rep, SOHO Rep, A.R.T. and Steppenwolf Theatre, and The NOLA Project is thrilled to present this regional premiere to a city that knows a thing or two about French royalty. Three-time Big Easy Award-winning director Mark Routhier ("One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest", "Balm in Gilead") will direct and Big Easy Entertainer of the Year Cecile Monteyne will star as the controversial queen. by Matt Tamanini - Aug 16, 2015

Very little in life is as refreshing on a hot summer day as a nice, cool cucumber sandwich; a close second perhaps is a classic, breezy comedy in an air conditioned theater. Fortunately, Theatre UCF is bringing back both when their production of Oscar Wilde's THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST returns on August 27th for a final weekend of performances, after running earlier this summer in repertoire with DO BLACK PATENT LEATHER SHOWS REALLY REFLECT UP? (Check out Kimberly Moy's BWW Orlando review of PATENT LEATHER). Under the direction of Mark Routhier, the cast fully embraces the goofy storylines and giddy characters of this beloved comedy of manners to create an entertainingly trivial way to spend a summer evening. BWW Review: Theatre UCF's '(a love story)' is an Entertaining Modern Take on Classic TragedyBWW Review: Theatre UCF's '(a love story)' is an Entertaining Modern Take on Classic Tragedy
by Matt Tamanini - Feb 24, 2015

'Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.' For many, those words are the definition of what a love story should be about. However, in Theatre UCF's play '(a love story),' which runs through March 1st, three intertwining tales chronicle all of the fevered, messy emotions involved with falling in, and out, of love. The highly-stylized play casts a disapproving eye on love in the modern world, all the while casing the storytelling in the trappings of a classic tragedy. Playwright Kelly Lusk occasionally uses the familiar structure to illuminate the universality of love, but more often than not, he allows it to run roughshod over the story being told, robbing it of any genuine emotion. Nonetheless, Theatre UCF's production is marked with uniformly impressive performances and thrilling production design; reaffirming why Central Florida's colleges provide some of the best, cutting-edge theatre in the region.
