In a career spanning over five decades, pianist Monty Alexander has built a reputation for exploring and bridging the worlds of American jazz, popular song, and the music of his native Jamaica, finding in each a sincere spirit of musical expression. He has performed and recorded with a wide array of distinguished artists such as Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Dizzy Gillespie, Sonny Rollins, and Quincy Jones, and as a leader, Monty has recorded over 70 albums.

59E59 Theaters will host CROSS THAT RIVER, a new musical composed by renowned jazz artist Allan Harris, with a book by Mr. Harris & Pat Harris, and directed by Regge Life. Produced by Love Productions Records, CROSS THAT RIVER begins performances on Thursday, November 30 for a limited engagement through Sunday, December 31. Carolyn Dorfman Dance, whose bold and dramatic works connect life and movement debuts its 35th performance season with Under the Umbrella of Movement at Jersey City Theater Center on October 22 at 4 p.m. in collaboration with classic pantomime artist Grigory Gurevich.

By the time Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong collaborated on their first duet together, they were each already jazz giants. Fitzgerald was an acclaimed solo artist for Decca with many hits and more than 200 songs under her young belt, first with the Chick Webb Orchestra and then as leader of her own big band.

On Saturday, October 21, Flushing Town Hall presents the voice of Venezuela , Betsayda Machado y La Parranda El Clavo, for a colorful evening of Afro-Venezuelan dance and music. Guests can participate in a dance lesson before the performance.
