The Public Theater begins free performances for the community-based Public Works production of Shakespeare's THE WINTER'S TALE, conceived and directed by Obie Award winner Lear deBessonet, with music and lyrics by Todd Almond, and choreography by Chase Brock tonight, September 5.

Lena Hall, 2014 Tony Award winner for Best Featured Actress in a Musical (Hedwig and the Angry Inch), recently surprised students of Broadway Artists Alliance'a Summer Intensive. Hall spoke of the start of her career, auditioning for her award winning role, and making time for her rock band, The Deafening. Hall also participated in a Q&A with students, answering questions and offering advice for young performers. Get a look at her appearance below!

The Public Theater will begin free performances for the community-based Public Works production of Shakespeare's THE WINTER'S TALE, conceived and directed by Obie Award winner Lear deBessonet, with music and lyrics by Todd Almond, and choreography by Chase Brock on Friday, September 5. This original musical adaption will run for three nights only through Sunday, September 7 at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. Free tickets will be distributed, two per person, at 12:00 p.m. on the day of the show at the Delacorte Theater and via the Virtual Ticketing lottery at www.publictheater.org.

Notable Broadway arranger, orchestrator and musical director Lynne Shankel will present an evening of original songs later this Fall at popular NYC cabaret venue 54 Below, titled SHANKTUNES: A NIGHT OF ORIGINAL SONGS BY LYNNE SHANKEL.

Volume 2 of writer and musical theater historian Jennifer Tepper's 'THE UNTOLD STORIES OF BROADWAY: Tales from the World's Most Famous Theaters' series is in the works, and the author just took to Twitter to announce the eight theaters featured in the second installment. Fontana relayed some words of wisdom during a Q&A, answering questions ranging from memorizing all those lines to the process of making Frozen.

On June 7, Lin-Manuel Miranda's new mini-musical, 21 Chump Street, was featured at the Brooklyn Academy of Music's THIS AMERICAN LIFE as part of the 2014 'RadioLoveFest'. As a part of the event, nearly 50 actors, singers, dancers, musicians and comedians joined Ira Glass onstage at the Brooklyn Academy of Music's Opera House...to try some things they'd never tried before. The result? Journalism turned into opera, into plays, into a Broadway musical. Earlier today, Jesse Tyler Ferguson ('Modern Family,' The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee) posted a video on Instagram with fellow stars Zachary Quinto, Jonathan Groff, Whitney Bashor, Krysta Rodriguez, Billy Porter, and Eden Espinosa at the dress rehearsal for the Public Theatre Gala that was held last night.
