The Hollywood Museum is thrilled to announce its 2017 salute to the LGBTQ community's contributions to the entertainment industry. The fourth annual "REAL to REEL: Portrayals and Perceptions of LGBTQs in Hollywood" exhibit, in partnership with Los Angeles City Council member Mitch O'Farrell, is an educational, entertaining and informative retrospective of LGBTQ images in film, TV, new digital platforms featuring costumes, props, photos, and iconic imagery all telling the story of the milestones and influence that LGBTQ characters and plot lines have had in Hollywood from early stereotypes to modern-day representations. Goldenson Broadway Concert Series at Rubicon Theatre Company continues with a concert starring Emmy Award-winner and multiple-Tony nominee NANCY DUSSAULT in MY LIFE…UPON THE WICKED STAGE. Perhaps best known to audiences as the first host of "Good Morning America," and for her co-starring role on TV on "Too Close for Comfort," Dussault's remarkable career began on the stage. Her concert includes anecdotes about Dussault's remarkable career and songs by many of her favorite composers, such as Richard Rodgers, Jule Styne, Burton Lane and Stephen Sondheim. The Professional Dancers Society (PDS) held its Annual Gypsy Awards Luncheon Sunday, April 23rd at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA in honor of Choreographer Mandy Moore (La La Land, So You Think You Can Dance, Dancing with the Stars), veteran TV Producer Lee Hale (Dean Martin Variety Series) choreographers Karen Willes and Natalie Willes; and legendary performer Carol Channing who was not able to attend, but who sent a letter to be read by her dear friend, the iconic Lily Tomlin.  In her own inimitable style, Ms. Tomlin spoke fondly of Ms. Channing and recalled their first meeting "...in a dark alley in Chicago, it was the backstage door to the Shubert Theater, where Carol was appearing in 'Hello Dolly!.'  BWW TV's own Michael Sterling was there to talk to the stars. The Saint Mary's College Department of Communication Studies, Dance, and Theatre is proud to welcome writer, comedian, and actress Casey Whitaker to campus as this year's Margaret M. Hill Endowed Visiting Artist in Residence. Whitaker is a member of Second City improvisational troupe, who spent a week on campus in March 2015 as part of the Margaret M. Hill Endowed Visiting Artist series. Whitaker is directing Saint Mary's theatre students in the spring production, a play titled Lucky, Liar, Loser, which she wrote herself.
