Dixon Place's new production, THE ABSOLUTE BRIGHTNESS OF LEONARD PELKEY, will begin previews Saturday, February 7th, and open on Sunday, February 22nd at 6:00 PM. Based on his best-selling novel, the show features critically acclaimed, Emmy nominated and award-winning storyteller James Lecesne, who portrays the life and characters of a Jersey Shore town where a young boy goes missing. The play is directed by Tony Speciale, with visuals by Matthew Sandager and incidental music by Duncan Sheik, some of which will be released in his new record "Legerdemain" in April 2015. THE ABSOLUTE BRIGHTNESS OF LEONARD PELKEY will run through March 28th at Dixon Place (161 Chrystie Street). The Flea Theater has announced another extension of Kim Davies' World Premiere SMOKE, directed by Flea Resident Director Tom Costello (The Wundelsteipen (and other difficult roles for young people)) and featuring members of The Bats, the resident acting company at The Flea. The Flea Theater is proud to announce yet another extension of Kim Davies' World Premiere Smoke, directed by Flea Resident Director Tom Costello (The Wundelsteipen (and other difficult roles for young people)) and featuring members of The Bats, the resident acting company at The Flea. Says Producing Director Carol Ostrow, "where 50 Shades of Grey dances on the surface of BDSM, Smoke cuts to the core." The New York Dance and Performance Awards (The Bessies), NYC's premier dance awards honoring outstanding creative work in the field, announced tonight the complete list of 2013-14 season award recipients. The Bessies, produced in partnership with Dance/NYC, were held at the legendary Apollo Theater at 7:30 p.m., following red carpet interviews and photographs with the nominees in attendance. NYC First Lady Chirlane McCray gave opening remarks, and Lisa Kron, whose hit musical Fun Home will make its Broadway debut this year, hosted the evening. (more...)

The Flea Theater presents Pod 2 of their terrifying 4 part theatrical event - THE CUTTHROAT SERIES: GRAND GUIGNOL DUELS beginning October 14. These turn of the century French plays alternate between ghastly horrors and carnal comedies to create a gripping, deplorable evening of theater. To add to that thrill, audience members will vote on their favorite play from each of the four pods (titled GORE, CRUELTY, NIGHT TERROR, and LUST) and the winners will return for an extended run in January.
