Baryshnikov Arts Center (BAC) has announced the recipient of the 2019-20 Cage Cunningham Fellow, lighting designer Jennifer Tipton. This is the fourth award of BAC's distinguished fellowship established in 2015 to support artists who embody John Cage and Merce Cunningham's commitment to artistic innovation.

On Friday, August 30, the theatre community lost dramaturg Robert Blacker, who passed away suddenly at the age of 71. Longtime collaborator Des McAnuff, who worked with Blacker at La Jolla Playhouse and Stratford Shakespeare Festival, writes a tribute to his friend below:

The posthumous release is produced by and features her collaborator Jamie Lawrence. York, hailed as “an ingenious, radical, extravagant talent” by The New Yorker and “singer-songwriter-truthteller” by The Village Voice, was renowned for her soulful voice and hypnotic stage presence, in addition to her original songs and thought-provoking musical juxtapositions of contemporary jazz and pop music. Swoon, which features artwork by Nora's husband and artistic collaborator Jerry Kearns, will be available on all digital and streaming platforms, and on CD from CD Baby. A tribute concert will be held at Joe's Pub at The Public Theater, on Monday, October 7 at 7:00 PM.

The Public Theater (Artistic Director, Oskar Eustis; Executive Director, Patrick Willingham) and the Onassis Foundation USA announced today six free performances of THE GOSPEL AT COLONUS, the groundbreaking re-telling of Sophocles' classic, for a limited engagement, September 4-9 at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. With book, original lyrics, and direction by Lee Breuer and original music, adapted lyrics, and music direction by Bob Telson, the iconic musical returns to New York City for the first time since 2004 to celebrate the 35th Anniversary of the original production at the Brooklyn Academy of Music and to honor visionary director Lee Breuer for his lifetime of excellence and historic collaboration with The Public Theater.

Lincoln Center Theater will again open its doors for the 24th annual LCT Directors Lab, a three-week developmental program for nurturing young professional stage directors from across the country and around the world. This year's lab will take place from August 6-25.
