2018 Indie Memphis Film Festival Announces Full Slate

Indie Memphis Film Festival is pleased to announce the full slate of films for its 2018 incarnation, spanning from November 1st - 5th, 2018. This year's festival promises to be a very exciting and wildly varied one, featuring five World Premiere screenings and one U.S. Premiere screening, as well as Special Presentations such as CABIN BOY with Chris Elliott in attendance and Barbara Loden's feminist masterpiece WANDA presented by Amy Seimetz (Showtime's “The Girlfriend Experience”), as well as a retrospective of the recent films of filmmaker Hong Sangsoo.
Carl St. Clair Leads Pacific Symphony's 40th Anniversary Season

Pacific Symphony's 2018-19 season, which celebrates the orchestra's 40th anniversary opens on Thursday, September 27 with a program featuring American composer Frank Ticheli's "Shooting Stars," commissioned for Pacific Symphony's 25th anniversary and newly revised for this season's celebration; Ravel's "Bolero" highlighting musicians of Pacific Symphony as soloists on stage and in a specially commissioned anniversary film; guest soloist Olga Kern in Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3. In addition, this opening concert presents the Symphony's new concertmaster, Dennis Kim, sharing the solo spotlight with the Symphony's principal violist Meredith Crawford in Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante.

Musicals at Richter (MAR), celebrating its 34th season as the longest-running outdoor theater in Connecticut, kicks off the summer with 'Legally Blonde,' the effervescent and wildly upbeat musical based on the popular 2001 film comedy starring Reese Witherspoon. Staged on the grounds of the Richter Arts Center in Danbury, performances take place outdoors under the stars Friday through Sunday evenings at 8:00 p.m., with additional specially discounted performances on Thursday, July 5 and 12. There is no show on Friday, July 13.

Full cast and crew have been announced for THE DAYS ARE SHORTER, by Evanston resident Corinne J. Kawecki. In Kawecki's play, to be directed by Pride Films and Plays company member Iris Sowlat, 53-year-old Julia is afraid of getting older. Despite attempts to recapture her youth, her body keeps reminding her of her advancing years. With the help of her younger female lover's magic act, Julia creates a new, magical life to help her accept the inevitability of aging by find out who is she is and who really needs her love. The play was an entrant in Pride Films and Plays' annual "LezPlay" competition in 2016 and was produced by Queer Theatre Kalamazoo this past January.

Babes With Blades Theatre Company (BWBTC) continues its 20th Anniversary Season: Origins with the Chicago premiere of The Good Fight, playing at City Lit Theater, 1020 W. Bryn Mawr Ave., January 6 February 17, 2018. Developed in 2011 through BWBTC's Fighting Words program under the title Deeds Not Words, the play is written by Anne Bertram, executive director of Theatre Unbound, a Minneapolis/St. Paul company devoted to work by and about women. Elizabeth Lovelady, a Jeff Award-winning artist based in Chicago, directs The Good Fight, which features combat by Fight Choreographer Gaby Labotka. Preview performances are Saturday, Jan. 6 at 8 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 7 at 3 p.m., Friday, Jan. 12 at 8 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 13 at 8 p.m., and Sunday, Jan. 14 at 3 p.m. Opening Night is Monday, Jan. 15 at 8 p.m. Regular performances are Thursdays Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. Preview tickets are $10, student and senior tickets are $15, early bird general admission (available online through January 15, 2018) are $20 and general admission (after January 15, 2018) are $25.
