Former Hoboken resident and guitarist, Bill Frisell, takes to the stage at the South Orange Performing Arts Center Thursday, January 22nd at 7:30PM to navigate audiences through the sounds of surf, blues, country, swing and rock. His performance, Guitar in the Space Age!, is a look back through decades of music with the perspective of an astronaut peering at the crystalline image of the planet earth through millions of miles of outer space. BillBoard magazine said it best when stated, 'No one refracts age-old Americana through a cutting-edge prism with the warm-hearted, fleet-minded individuality of Frisell.' Joining Frisell for this performance will be fellow guitar master Greg Leisz on electric and pedal steel guitars, and his trio partners Tony Scherr on bass and Kenny Wollesen on drums. (more...)

Based upon the show business aspirations and successes of R&B acts such as The Supremes, The Shirelles, James Brown, Jackie Wilson, and others, the musical follows the story of a young female singing trio from Chicago, Illinois called 'The Dreams', who become music superstars. It was nominated for thirteen Tony Awards, including the Tony Award for Best Musical, and won six. It was later adapted into a motion picture from DreamWorks and Paramount Pictures in 2006.
