Does Abe Burrows' now classic show How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying still hold up theme-wise? Well, nepotism will always rear its ugly head and those that climb the corporate ladder will continue ruthlessly to step on those beneath them and on those by their sides as well. So, the answer is partly yes! Judging by Friday's young audience at GCT, who were laughing quite heartily, ... Business is curiously entertaining, even though it belongs to the 60s. More about this later. Directors Danny Michaels and Orlando Alexander have pulled out all the stops to make the production work, and every character actor - just about the entire ensemble - are 'spot on' well cast. Once again GCT does not disappoint. Connecticut Repertory Theatre (CRT) announces the complete cast for its production of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, the musical comedy by Abe Burrows, Jack Weinstock and Willie Gilbert, with music and lyrics by Frank Loesser. Directed by CRT Artistic Director Vincent J. Cardinal, How to Succeed…kicks off the 2016 Nutmeg Sumer Series starring Emmy Award Winner Charles Shaughnessy as JB Biggley alongside Broadway's Riley Costello as J. Pierpont Finch.  Performances of How To Succeed…  will begin on June 2, 2016 and continue through June 12, 2016 at Connecticut Repertory Theatre's Harriet S. Dear Reader (It only seems appropriate to start this review off with that), sometimes a show comes along that feels like a no brainer. A show that's fairly bulletproof and if a theater does it well enough with enough pieces in place then it'll be a crowd pleaser. 'How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying' is one of those shows. You're bound to walk away from it with something you enjoyed. Which brings me to the current production at the 5th Avenue Theatre. They've managed to take this pleaser of a show so far beyond the bare minimum making this gem shine with so much brilliance that you may need sunglasses. (more...)

This year's season is a celebration of authors and their finest works with classics including Pygmalion, The Mousetrap, A Raisin in the Sun and Around the World in 80 Days. The season opens with Lanford Wilson's comedy classic, Hot L Baltimore on September 26, 2015. The season curtain falls on August 6, 2016 with the musical How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Centenary Stage Company's Young Performers work tirelessly to perfect their dance moves, learn all of their lines, and get their vocal harmonies just right for the culmination of their training session and this spring is no exception! These talented young thespians between the ages of 8 and 18 will fill the Little Theater with a variety of shows and musicals to entertain audiences of all ages May 29th - June 7th with their annual Spring Festival of Shows. The Young Performers Workshop (YPW) has been hailed as a "state treasure" by Peter Filichia of the Star Ledger and brings in youth from Morris, Warren, Hunterdon and Sussex counties. This spring, the festival will feature How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying, Gypsy, and American Sampler: 100 Years of Broadway Dance.  Performances will be held on select dates in the Little Theatre on the campus of Centenary College at 400 Jefferson Street in Hackettstown.  (more...)
