The Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC) announces the cast and creative team for Hamlet, directed by STC Artistic Director Michael Kahn and featuring acclaimed actor Michael Urie as the tortured Danish prince. Shakespeare's most celebrated tragedy will run January 16-February 25, 2018 at Sidney Harman Hall.
John R. Freimann, Beloved Drama Teacher, Passes Away

Actor, director, mentor, friend and beloved former drama professor at Whitman College John R. 'Jack' Freimann died January 3, 2018 in Huntington Beach, California. He was 91. A member of Whitman's Harper Joy Theatre faculty for more than 30 years, he retired to New York City in 1992 to resume his professional acting career. The namesake for Harper Joy's Freimann Studio Theatre, he also founded the facility's famed poster collection, to which he contributed long after leaving Walla Walla.

Formerly of HB's acting faculty, Mr. Hyman was a longtime HB friend. A brilliant actor, teacher and mentor, Mr. Hyman's career broke many boundaries, both in the United States and abroad. HB takes pride in honoring his legacy and invites friends, family, students, colleagues, and admirers to celebrate his life.

Frantic Assembly Teaches Masterclass in Physical Theater in NYC

Award-winning and sector-leading London based theater company Frantic Assembly (Movement Direction, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time) visits NYC's HB Studio this Fall to teach a Physical Theater Masterclass. Frantic Assembly's widely studied method of devising theater from a physical starting point has been impacting theatrical practice for up to 24 years. The workshop, now enrolling, is scheduled for October 22, 2017.

Cherry Lane Theatre's Founder's Project will celebrate 100 years of Horton Foote as they present, in a co-production with La Femme Theatre Productions, The Traveling Lady, directed by Austin Pendleton. The Traveling Lady will begin performances tonight, June 7, and will open on June 22 running through July 16, 2017 at Cherry Lane Theatre (38 Commerce St.) in Greenwich Village.

Theatre East Board of Directors presents Richard Mawe with the 2017 Laurette Taylor Award on Monday, May 15th at Cafe Tallulah, 240 Columbus Ave, in the Upper West Side.
