Inspired by Andrea Levy's Small Island and Helen Edmundson's adaption for the National Theatre, photographer Ronan McKenzie has been commissioned by the National Theatre to respond to the post war journeys undertaken by Caribbean men and women between 1948 -1971. Photographed in Leigh-on-Sea on the shores of the Thames estuary, McKenzie's documentary style images subtly connect ideas of seascapes, water, arrivals and new beginnings to Levy's Small Island.

Andrea Levy's epic, Orange Prize-winning novel bursts into new life on the Olivier Stage. A company of 40 tell a story which journeys from Jamaica to Britain through the Second World War to 1948, the year the HMT Empire Windrush docked at Tilbury.

Tolstoy's Anna Karenina, adapted for the stage by Helen Edmundson, is a staggeringly ambitious project for any theatre. First of all, it is a period piece taking place in a foreign country, in this case Russia and belongs in the realm of literary classics, requiring or better suited to classically trained actors. Currently onstage at Actors Co-op's Crossley Theatre. Anna is directed intelligently by Heather Chesley and boasts a fine cast, but somehow lacks the stature that it deserves.

The National Theatre has today announced its new season

Point Park University will open the doors to its brand new four-story, state-of-the art Pittsburgh Playhouse with a highly-anticipated season featuring multiple award-winning, show-stopping productions including Cabaret, Sunday in the Park with George and History Boys.

Roundabout Theatre Company presents the new Broadway production of J. B. Priestley's Time and the Conways, directed by Tony winner Rebecca Taichman (Indecent). The play returns to Broadway for the first time since its premiere in 1938 and opens officially tonight, October 10, 2017. This is a limited engagement through November 26, 2017 at the American Airlines Theatre on Broadway (227 West 42nd Street). The Royal Shakespeare Company's production of QUEEN ANNE, which stars Romola Garai and Emma Cunniffe, plays at London's Theatre Royal Haymarket until 30 September - book tickets here from £15

Leo Tolstoy's ANNA KARENINA adapted by Helen Edmundson (currently represented on The West End with Queen Anne) was presented as a developmental reading at The Arcola Theatre on July 23 in London. The 'electrifying' adaptation was devised by Jaclyn Bethany with company members James Barnes, Jasmine Blackborow, Peta Cornish, Aisha Fabienne Ross, Will Haddington, Kate Handford, Blake Kubena, William Sebag-Montefiore and produced by Joanne Williams.
