Violinists from Around the World Participate in 19th Annual String Festival, 8/11-15

The 19th annual Elisabeth Morrow School Summer String Festival will run from August 11-15, 2014 at The Elisabeth Morrow School in Englewood, NJ for children ages four to thirteen. For five days in August, 250 young violinists, violists, cellists, harpists and bassists will rehearse and perform Bartok, Bach, Handel, and Mozart in an intensive and joyful music training program.

Bergen County Students Win at 2014 Scholastic Art and Writing Competition

Nineteen students from The Elisabeth Morrow School (EMS) won regional awards in the 2014 Scholastic Art and Writing competition. Each year, more than 250,000 art and writing pieces are submitted by seventh through twelfth grade students across the country, Canada, and U.S. schools abroad. EMS students won with three art and 16 writing submissions, and one of the four regional Gold Key award winners, Claire Fink of Cresskill, New Jersey, won a National Gold Medal for her personal essay/memoir Braving Fear. Historically, the national gold medal winners represent the top 1% of entries.

Elisabeth Morrow School Students Participate in Elizabeth Barry's TEDx Talk

Recently, Elisabeth Morrow School students participated in a TEDx talk given by Elizabeth Barry, entrepreneur and founder of TEDx Hoboken. Students learned about TED talks, learned the TEDx High Five, and played The Courage Game. The theme of TEDx Hoboken was 'Infinite Horizons,' and students explored the limitless power and potential that they have to follow their dreams. The students also watched a TED talk by a teenager from Kenya, Africa. The African student created an invention to scare away lions from attacking cows in his Masai village.

EMS & Project Cicero Will Partner to Bring Books to Students

The Elisabeth Morrow School (EMS) in Englewood, New Jersey will once again partner with Project Cicero New Jersey and will host the annual book drive that will benefit public school students from under-resourced schools in New Jersey. Approximately 200 teachers from various districts will attend the book drive that will be held at The Elisabeth Morrow School Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 11:00AM. Over 200 teachers will be able to select books to take back to their classrooms for their students. Project Cicero accepts new and gently used hardcover and paperback books for children (pre-K through grade 12) and young adults. Project Cicero does not accept textbooks, adult books, library discards or out of date non-fiction/reference books. All teachers who would like to benefit from the drive must pre-register by emailing projectciceronnj@gmail.com.

Elisabeth Morrow School to Host Open House, 1/15

The Elisabeth Morrow School, a threes through eighth grade country day school in Englewood, New Jersey, is hosting an open house on Wednesday, January 15, 2014. The program, starting at 9 a.m., will feature remarks from the Head of School and a panel discussion with members of the Class of 2014. After the presentation, families are invited see the classrooms and to tour the 14-acre campus that includes technology labs, science labs, performance spaces, libraries, playing field, two gymnasiums, working gardens and nature trails.

Elisabeth Morrow School Hosts Shoe Drive For Typhoon Survivors in Philippines

After Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, people around the world were moved by stories of devastation and suffering. Channel 7 ABC Eyewitness News reporter Nina Pineda launched a campaign called Flip Flops for the Philippines, and the community at the Elisabeth Morrow School quickly answered the call to donate shoes to help those in need.

Elisabeth Morrow School to Partner with Project Cicero NNJ for Book Drive

The Elisabeth Morrow School (EMS) in Englewood, New Jersey will once again partner with Project Cicero NNJ to host a book drive that will benefit local schoolteachers from under-resourced schools in Northern New Jersey. This past March, in its inaugural year, Project Cicero NNJ collected approximately 35,000 books from individuals and families from 21 local schools to help supplement or create classroom libraries for teachers of the Englewood Public School District and Teach for America- Greater Newark. Approximately 200 teachers from those districts attended the book drive at The Elisabeth Morrow School held on March 9, 2013 and were able to select books to take back to their classrooms, thanks to the generous donation of boxes from Staples and Lowenstein Sandler LLP and a truck supplied by North Jersey Media Group.

Elisabeth Morrow School Orchestra Performs National Anthem at Run 10, Feed 10 Race

Recently, The Elisabeth Morrow School Orchestra was selected to perform the national anthem for Run10, Feed 10, a 10 kilometer race in support of hunger relief. This performance marked the second year in a row that the Orchestra performed at Run 10, Feed 10; the Orchestra also performed at the inaugural race last year. Sponsored by Unilever, Women's Health, the FEED Foundation and Crowdrise, Run 10, Feed 10 provides 10 meals for every 10 kilometers that runners complete. Naya Rivera, of Fox Television's Glee, was one of the many celebrity guests on hand and spoke of the importance and efficacy of the race.

Elisabeth Morrow School Students and Assemblywoman, Vainieri Huttle, Take Part in Teen Bullying Conference Friday

With bullying such a growing "epidemic" that is impacting children at younger and younger ages, the JCC Teen Department holding a teen leadership conference for middle school students that will be dedicated to the pressing topic of bullying. At the conference, which is scheduled for Friday, March 1, 2013, 8:30am - 1pm, The Elisabeth Morrow School students who attend will have a unique opportunity to learn more about the dangers of bullying, hear personal stories from teens who have been victims of bullying, and gain a deeper understanding of the emotional scarring that such experiences cause. The goal is to make younger teens "aware" and to inspire them to believe that they can personally make a difference and bring about social change.

Project Cicero Hosts 16-School Book Drive Benefiting Teachers

The Elisabeth Morrow School (EMS) in Englewood, New Jersey and Project Cicero will partner up this March to host a 16-school Book Drive that will benefit local schoolteachers in the Englewood Public School system and Teach for America Greater Newark. Project Cicero, which has been in existence in NYC for over ten years, takes new and gently used books from donors at public schools and independent schools and redistributes them to needy public schools through an annual book drive. Project Cicero now has over 100 private, public and parochial schools involved in the drive each year. To date, Project Cicero has placed over 1,850,000 books into 10,500 classrooms and school libraries reaching 450,000 children in under-resourced schools in NYC. This year, for the first time, Project Cicero will expand to Northern New Jersey, benefiting schools in Englewood and Newark.

Only a week after Hurricane Sandy hit and two days after the power was restored in Englewood, NJ, The Elisabeth Morrow School hosted their annual book fair in The Peter Lawrence Gymkhana on campus. The annual book fair raises money for the school, through raffles and book sales, and includes author panels and readings for the entire family. Although event organizers worried about whether the book fair would be able to open in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, the event went on without a hitch. Scroll below for photos from the event.

Recently, The Elisabeth Morrow School Orchestra was selected to perform the national anthem live in NYC at Pier 84 near The Intrepid for the Run10, feed 10 10 k Race down the West Side Highway. The Elisabeth Morrow Orchestra, which is the premier orchestra of the New Jersey independent school, was selected bycompetitive audition to win the spot to play the national anthem at this hugely attended race. Ashley Greene, star of the Twilight film-series, spoke at the event, which raised over $200,000 to feed New Yorkers in need.
